Perhaps it is just me, but when I go shopping for groceries and assorted household goods, there are certain things which I don't like bagged.
For example; gallon jugs of milk or other beverages, large containers of liquid laundry soap, gallon containers of bleach...etc.
I don't like it when I check out and the bagger, puts these sorts of items in a bag. One, all of these items are heavy and usually break those flismy plastic bags anyway; two, all of these items have handles.
In my opinion, it is much easier to carry such items by the handles that are on them, rather than in a bag. It annoys me when I buy items such as this, and they get bagged at the checkout counter.
Ok, so my question is; am I totally looney or does this annoy anyone else?

I can relate to what you are saying, but only from my distant past. Here in Argentina, there are a lot of things I like - one of them being that after checking out, there are NO BAGS. (keeping it green)
You give them your address and they run the things over to your house in a van and bring them up to your apartment / house in large plastic bins on wheels. All free of charge and arriving about 2 hours after you leave the store. That's not all... Everyone delivers here including McDonalds, Burger King, cleaners, and laundromats.

That sounds like a pretty cool delivery system you have there!

I do have to agree with you on this because it is very irritating in that the item already has a handle, I don't need another one. And then half the time the bag breaks so I have to double bag it anyway...so why waste a friggin bag? I know, I just recapped what you are saying...sorry!!
But because I have asked so many times for them NOT to do it and they do it anyway I have now and forever given up on not getting them bagged and just figure "you know what, I need the bag for trash or my cat's dirty liter anyway". So I just put the dang things to use.

I use the plastic grocery bags for trash too.
I know what you mean about asking them not to bag it, and they do it anyway, that is the most annoying part of it to me. I too, gave up on asking them not to do it.
Now, most of the time, if the store has a self check out, I just use that so I can bag, or not bag, my own stuff. However, there are still times when I am in a store that either does not have self checkout lanes, or, I am in there late and the self checkout lanes have all been closed down. Those times I have to deal with the those annoying baggers bagging things that don't need to be bagged!

Sometimes the cashier will double bag them, but I find the items are too big for those flimsy plastic bags. We now bring our own bags, and we do wind up carrying the gallon of milk and that the large cereal box is too big even for that. I would rather have them bagged, but in my own cloth or those black green bags, but not in the plastic biodegradable bags that we get at Safeway. It is an annoyance to take them out.
But I hate when the bagger puts the meat and the food produce in one bag. Sure the meat is in a separate package, but to put them with onions, and red and green peppers? Does he intend for me to use them all up for supper that day?

I don't mind that they bag everything, what I don't like is when they put like one thing in a bag and I end up with twice as many bags as I should have had. I think it's such a waste, that is why I opt to bag my own groceries.

This annoys me too. Not only for the reasons you mentioned, but it is such a waste. It is just not necessary, and I already have enough bags to last me a year if I never go shopping again- I use them to line wastebaskets. I also hate when they put one item in a bag by itself because it's all that's left. They could just stick it in another bag.

Yeah, I always wonder why they don't just stick it in another bag myself.

yeah, that irritates me too. When things are heavy but have a usable, reliable handle I see no reason to bag them.

It does seem pretty stupid. I mean those handles are there for a reason afterall! It seems like they would want to use as few bags as possible and only bag items that absolutely had to go in a bag. That would be more environmentally friendly and cut costs for the store. We finally have a store here that sells reusable cloth bags, 10 for $10 and since it's a store I like to go to anyway I'm going to start getting them but only use them for the things that have to be in a bag so I don't have to buy so many.

You are certainly not alone, I also dislike these items being bagged. It is more of a hassle to try to lug them about in the bag than without it. it bugs me on the wastefulness as well - a bag per item??? the other day I bought a huge #10 size can of diced tomatoes (I think the cans are a gallon size, and fairly heavy) and they were put in a bag... my son was carrying the groceries from the cart to the car and shplatt right to the ground the can went - busted through the bottom of the bag no sooner had he picked it up.
