It never hurts to ask

I was on a drive out of state yesterday and my glasses broke for no apparent reason. Unfortunately it was the side of my worse eye, so I drove the last 2 hours with that eye closed.
I have poor eyesight and rely heavily on my glasses, I can not distinguish things without them - kind of like an impressionist style painting.
Today I went to the place that I bought the glasses and asked if they are warranteed at all. I bought them 20 months ago.
She said that it was such an odd break she would go ahead and warrantee them for me! all I would have to pay is shipping, as they do not have a similar frame of the same shape and size in stock (to pop my lenses into)
I opted for express shipping and she will place the order on Monday - since Tuesday is a holiday I can expect them on Wednesday.
Never hurts to ask - for $15 (shipping costs) I will get my frames replaced. It also will keep me their customer :)
In the mean time I have an all too unattractive piece of black electrical tape holding my lens in place. lol.

that's true! thanks for sharing this. sometimes i just ask on the off chance that they will be extra accomodating.
hopefully they don't think I'm trying to push my luck or anything. most staff will just smile and say no if it is not within their powers to grant something like that. then i just smile sheepishly and pay up.

turns out I was really fortunate - I picked up the frames today (so good to be able to see now without the edges of black electrical tape in the way)
and the woman said that they do not warrentee when the purchase was made over a year ago (it had been 20 mos since I bought mine, apparently) but since the person I inquired of originally made the mistake of saying yes - they will honor the claim.
shew!
$15 for postage and a brand new pair of frames!

It is nice to hear of a company that gives good customer service in this day and age. It is also great to see that you took the risk of asking for service. I bet you look great in electrical tape.
Happy Holidays,

Sorry for that mysterious breakage of your glasses-the good news is that you were assertive enough to ask, thanks for you assertiveness my dear Modestah, many would have incurred heavy cost of another glass! Your discussion should be an eye opener to other mylotters here-always ask!

WOW!! That is awesome. Don't you wish that all businesses had such good public relations? You are so fortunate. The last time I had to get my glasses repaired I was out 75 dollars! Seems that things cost more and are made more shoddily everyday!

It is shame that your glasses broke but it is wonderful that you didn't just go out and buy a new pair of them. Your asking results in you getting a new frame and your lenses put in them. Yes, it never hurts to ask. I hope that you get them on Wednesday and that they will be a similar and comfortable frame. When I was in Australia I had a pair of prescription sunglasses. I was bathing in the sea when a large wave hit me. Oh my! My sunglasses came off but a kind man grabbed them. One of the lenses had fallen out. I could wear my regular glasses but the sunlight was awfully bright. I couldn't see properly through ordinary sunglasses. An optician repaired my prescription sunglasses after giving me a sight test. Shortly after that I decided to try out contact lenses. These days I wear daily contact lenses.

oh, I would love to be able to wear contact lenses. I bought them a few years back when I was in a play as we were not allowed to have glasses on that had lenses due to the lighting reflecting off of them.
I went through the expense of exam and ordering and cost of supplies - only to find myself not able to see properly with them in - I also had a devil of a time putting them in. what a fiasco.

i had this happen to me also when i was driving.the pin had fallen out which held the glasses together.i pulled over and rumaged through my handbag and luckily found a safety pin which i put my glasses back together,so i could drive.it was such a good look.i took mine back also and asked them to fix them, which they did for free.it probably would have only cost me a few dollars anyway, but i was impressed that tey did it for nothing and i keep going back to them all the time now.cheers sue

That's good news. I'm like you...maybe worse. Without my glasses I'm pretty blind. I wouldn't be able to drive or to work, see the tv or type on the computer. It would be really BAD! LOL. How exciting to get the new frames!

Wow, that is great news only pay shipping costs. Send me a private message to tell me where to get my next pair of glasses. I don't want to see this discussion disappear for any reason. My glasses were almost $500.00, so I certainly don't want to pay a big fee to fix them. I would not have been able to drive with broken frames, as my eye sight is terrible and can't drive at night.

i hate it when my glasses break...it is so uncomfortable and such an inconvenience.
it is good to know they took care of you, so few companies do that anymore. a lot of them make you get a new eye exam on top of it!

Better to have the black tape then not being able to see.

Hello Modestah,
I am sorry to hear about your glasses breaking while you were driving; that put you in a dangerous situation. I am glad to hear that your were able to get them replaced, and that you were able to have them shipped quickly. I have a brother like you, who relys heavily on his glasses and knowing that good customer service helped you to get more glasses proves that it really doesn't hurt to ask. Take Care and Happy New Year.
