I have just finished reading this book and found my self in a quandry wondering if Alexandra Parker did the right thing in returning to her husband. They were married for 18 years, had a child of three and then she developed cancer in the breast. She lost the breast and did chemotherapy but through this all the husband looked at her in disgust and never helped her throuhg. A co-worker who really loved her (younger than her though) helped her through it and the child had accepted him as family friend. Her husband however moved out to live with a younger girl and when his buisness crashed and he should have ended up in jail his wife and her associate's helped him out - he came back crying to her that he loved her and she took him back, hurting the younger guy. I was upset but I guess real love won out because she had genuinely loved him. Be honest could you take him back? My christian principles would tell me to but me I think not! But I guess when the love goes that deeply forgiveness overlooks all the wrong.

Hello dear sharon. This feeling the major characters is very complicated. It is hard for me to say anything as I feel puzzled at this ending. Anyway I do hope that they will later solve this and put themselves in the right position of life. Thanks.

Hello again dear sharon. I think that this lady is very nice to have forgiven the wrong that her husband has done to her, but when she leaves the younger man, what will be the result and effect on him? Sighing. Too complicated feelings. I am puzzled about this still.

When she left the younger man he moved from the area, left the job and started over in a new town where no one knew him. I guess he could not bear to be around her and not have her for himself. It is understandable though.

William I think it was hr love for her husband that overuled the fact that he left her in her sick state to be with someone younger representing all he thought she should be and now willnot be due to the cancer. It is quite cold of him if you ask me. He never once stood there for her but left her when she needed him most. It was great that she could forgive him and take him back. I guess she knew him better than he knew himself.

What God has put together, no man should put asunder. It is a story of many marriages and many times, the child in a man's heart dominates. He will come to his senses when he learns his lesson.only then he will realize who he loves.

Thats true but I think the excitement of a younger girl being interested in him got his head mixed up when he should have stood by his wife's side. He did not even visit her in the hospital.

Yeah but the sad part is that it was only when he fell into trouble he really began to appreciate her and to realise what he had in her.

I don't think that I would trust someone who left me when I needed him the most...during the worst time... Marriage is for better and worst not for the glamorous shine... Coming back after fail? no way babe....lol

I thought the same thing too but when I looked at how she perceive him to be and when his trial began she was there all the way. She showed true strenght of character and mind and a willingness to forgive.

I just love reading Danielle steels books. I have not read the book lightning yet. It sounds like a really good book I have to go and buy me one. Now the answer to your question if I was treated like that I would never take him back.

Alright Baby I felt the same way but let us have a solid discussio here on this. So you dont beleive in forgiving and giving a second chance? I know its just a book and that when people are hurt in a way such as this that first thought like me was not to take him back. In her case does it show strenght of character?

Danielle Steele is my mothers favorite author. I think my step-dad bought her Lightning for Christmas. I'll have to borrow it from her when she finishes it. I probably wouldn't have taken him back.I'm not that forgiving.

I love reading her books but I am ashamed to say that I have not been doing much reading since discovering Mylot and having the cable to watch but I had to read this book. Love - deep love changes people's outlook at things and I thought the same but when I realised that she really loved him I guess she preferred to stick with the evil she knew.
