India vs Wild Monkeys, is sterlization the answer?

India has decided to have trained youths sterilize monkeys. Is this a good idea considering many towns are over run by not only monkeys, but cows, dogs and cats? Personally, I say no. They are just going to make the monkey situation worse and have many people performing surgery on animals that are not qualified (they may be trained, but it takes more than just simple training to be able to successfully handle any situation that may arise during a sterilization operation). This puts the monkeys at risk for all sorts of diseases from the surgery plus who know how it will affect their temperment. The government needs to find a real solution to their problem, not one that will mask the problem. What do you think? here is an article on the subject: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,319951,00.html

I wouldn't dare comment on this, as it concerns the "m" word & India. Put the word cricket in the middle of this, & any Aussie commenting would be called a racist. Seriously, your topic is a good one. Why would sterilization make the monkey situation worse? They sterilzed koalas on Kangaroo Island because they were so over populated. I certainly would have reservations training youths to sterilize monkies. The procedure should be confined to vets only.

I am thinking that if they removing hormones from the monkeys bodies that are use to being there, that it would cause problems - like when cats are spayed too soon or too late.

Beware of PETA! Gotta do what they gotta do but maybe they can ask for help or suggestions from others who have had similiar problems in the past for better and more creative ways to fix their problems. This is a difficult call.
