I was a bit disappointed with "Fargo"

I finally got Fargo the other day through Blocbuster.com and was very anxious to watch it. Now, it was pretty bizairre, and kinda funny (ironic funny) at times. But I really wanted to know why did he need that money? They never really said "WHY" it all happened. And I'm a big "why" person, so I was a bit let down. My husband said it was to buy that lot, but I think that was another scheme to get more money. He did the loan with the cars for like $320K, the kidnapping was going to net him $40K, and he needed $750K from his father-in-law. Does anyone know the real reason?

It was so long ago that I watched Fargo so to be perfectly honest I can't even remember the specifics of it, except I was disappointed too with it..that I do remember. I remember they made such a big fuss about that movie and was even up for best picture of the year (1996 I think)...So I watched it when it was on HBO had cable then..don't now.. :( I really thought it had to be the stupidest movie going..like gee, am I missing something?
