It has been said that Jack Johnson attributes his success to friends of his who taped his live performances and shared them with others. He has, also, reportedly posted some versions of his life performances on the internet so that others can hear his music. (Free). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Johnson_%28musician%29 http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=creator:%22Jack%20Johnson%22 So, is Jack smart or lucky? Does passing along copies of songs that you enjoy to your friends help a singer-songwriter or is it stealing from them? Jack's success is attributed to friend sharing his music and other people wanting to buy it or attend his concerts, would this work for other up and coming artists or was it just a fluke of luck for Jack?

I think he may be both. Aside from that he is very talented. My hubby put Johnsons music on a jump drive for our car. Almost without fail when we listen he my self and our child sing some portion of his songs. It takes a good deal of talent to get a whole family singing and smiling. That something Jonson and my husband have in common.
