If you are like me, you receive a lot of email forwards. These forwards often tell of a scam or some information that "you just got to hear". What to believe though. Do you believe all those forwards? How do you decide what is true and what is a lie?
There is a place online where you can find out if those forwards are true or lies. The site is called snope.com. Here is the link to the news urban legends that have been posted.
http://www.snopes.com/info/whatsnew.asp
So what do you think it this true?
Christmas Truce
Front line soldiers sang carols, exchanged gifts and played soccer with the enemy during a Worls War 1 Christmas Truce.
What is your answer?
Well it is true and to read about it go to this link:

There are so many forwards that are not true. Now we have an easy way to check them out before we forward lies to our friends.

I am the same way. If it say forward, I usually just delete them. I hate it when they keep sending me the same thing over and over from different people

Something to consider when using Snopes: www.xkcd.com/250/
lol!
As far as forwarded emails, if it's a warning or virus alert I generally ignor them, along with if you forward this x will be donated to charity or chain letters and such.
I rarely forward stuff myself unless I know it is something a friend will like, then I will cut and paste and if there is any 'send to x people or...' that gets deleted.

These things will last as long as the disposable diapers in the landfills, LOL. We probably need to check Whois? about Snopes. I have not ever done one of those checks, but I have a friend who has.

I found out about the snopes site from another mylotter soon after I joined mylot. I had posted something that was forwarded to me, it turned out to be a hoax. I rarely forward anything anymore. Sometimes I will get something so cute that I just have to share. Some of the pictures that we get can be photoshopped so we don't know if they are true neither. And then some of them are true and terrific, thanks for sharing the link.

Polly,
It seems to me that the forwards are getting worse. There is not a day goes by but what I receive several forwards these days. The one that people seem to believe the most is the coke one. LOL

I take email forwards with a grain of salt. Even if they aren't true, many are inspirational. With these emails many a spirit has been lifted. If only for that, many are worthy of reading.
Thank you for the link to snopes. I never thought to check out the validity of these email fowards. It is nice to know there is a site to validate them.

When I first started online, I received all these forwards and I believed them... because you know people dont lie. LOL
Now it has reached the point that I dont open most of them. It seems I receive them from so many people and it is the same thing.LOL

I just delete the email forwards. Even if some are not scams, it does get annoying. I get a clean joke list that my sister-in-law was on and now it is getting so much and I do not want to hurt her feelings because I do not know whether the email was forwarded to her or whether someone else heard it.
I heard about that Christmas Truce Front line, but not about the playing soccer, only about them singing carols and exchanging gifts.

My sister in law sends a lot of forwards. It has reached the point where I just delete them without even opening them. I think she forwards everything and then to top it all off, she has a long list of people that she sent it to in the email. Talk about a way to keep the spam going...this is it

When someone sends me these I look them up under hoaxes. If it is a hoax then I send it back to the person letting
them know it is a hoax.I hate it most when the person that gets these sends them on to me without bothering to check
it out first.

I know exactly what you mean. I think we are all in the same group and the forwards just keep making their rounds. I do wish they would check to see if it is true before they forward these things

Hi, you are so right. I do check things out on Snopes, a lot. Unfortunately when my friends send me something, and I Snopes it, and find that it is not true, and tell them so, it hurts their feelings. I think we should be responsible about all the forwards we send. Thanks for posting this discussion.

I love Snopes and have used them for several years now - any forward that I receive I check it out with Snopes and if it's not true then I reply to the sender and let them know.

I have gotten burned on several of those "wait until you read this" e-mails.
I have gotten to the point where I don't forward 90% of what I get because alot it simply isn't true. I also like to decide for myself which companies I want to boycott. I am a Christian, but I believe that bashing people the way the American Family Association has begun to do is just as sinful as the infractions that they claim these companies and corporations have done.

I too am getting concerned about the American Family Association. They are no longer a group that sticks to the teachings of the Lord. They seem to have an agenda that keeps critizing people for their beliefs

I love snopes, I used to spend hours there just reading thru all the malarky that they've allegedly sorted thru. As far as forwards and spam, the only stuff of that likeness I get is from my ma, and its either strange jokes or weird sparkly graphics accompanying some anecdote about dogs or something.

I just cannot believe that people keep sending these emails. LOL one would think everyone would know they are not true by now. But they keep circulating. LOL
