Friendly Employess

I frequent the same gas station near my house each and every day. I get my smokes, gas, windshield fluid, oil etc there. I know the employees well and vice versa. So each time I stop I chat a little with them usually making jokes. I have handicap plates and complain when someone is parked in the only spot that doesnt have the plate, tag etc. Now the other night there was a car parked there legally so I parked in the yellow line area better known as the Firelane. The girl said, "Bob you can't park in the firelane." I laughed asking, "Did you not know I am a volunteer fireman?" She was stunned as she knows I am semi retired and gave me a funny look. Then she said, "I didn't know this. How long have you been doing this?" I laughed even harder as the manager laughed with me knowing full well what was coming next. I looked at the cashier seriously then said, "Did you not know it's illegal to question anyone from the fire department along these lines?" Her jaw dropped in astonishment thinking she'd done something wrong. We all had a great laff after she realized I was joking. I also have a new joke daily for the girls that work there and they look forward to me coming in at the same time each weekday. They have grown accustomed to me being there. If I am not there one night someone will ask me why not. Hahaha. I love this kind of banter with them each day. So my question is do you have a friendly store/gas station that you frequent often? Are you somewhat friends with the employesss? Do you know their names and do they know yours? I am not from a small town either. This is in a city of 60 thousand people so it's not like a rural gas station.

I don't now but I did where I lived before - actually I lived within a few miles of this place for almost 25 years. I really miss the place and although I've been in a few times since I moved it's not the same - there are some new faces and I just don't have the time when I'm there to get to know them. It is nice seeing the regulars though and they always ask how I'm doing and about my kids who several have known since they were little bitty or in the case of my youngest even before he was born.

Yes it is nice and something you don't get much these days. There is a little place not far from where I live now and there are a couple people who work there that are really friendly but I haven't really gotten to know them yet - maybe with time I hope.

there is more than 100 thousand people live here and no we don't know any friendly gas station employee. They are not bad not cooperative people but not as friendly as you can joke with. Pretty much straight forward pay and go. I'm Ok with that, it's not necessary to be friendly with them anyway

That's good when you can go in a store and know the people working there and them know you and be able to pick with them. I don't frequent the same gas station as my husband usually is the one who puts gas in my vehicle cause I hate pumping it. I do it sometimes but not often. But I do go into a consignment shop here for kids and the lady and I know each other by name. She even keeps stuff put up for me when I go in there and then she'll say I saw this and thought about you and usually I do want it so she knows me pretty well. I sell stuff in there too and she always has my money ready for me when I get there and I don't even have to ask her for it. And I can pick with her and she'll laugh and she can pick with me and I'll laugh. So it's pretty nice to be able to go in a store and know the people and get along so well with them.

I have two rural gas stations like that. The other night I stopped in the one for the first time in a month (I used to be there practically everyday until I moved) and the owner and one employee were there. They oohed and ahhed over the baby and gave him two lollipops free of charge just because "he is so cute". I know their names and they know all of ours...which is saying a lot since I have 6 altogether!

Yes actually....I frequent a store six blocks away from me and they all know me and actually almost know what I am going to buy. Milk, diet coke, bread, ice cream! I don't buy my gas there and so go to another one where the manager and I are friends! It's nice to walk in and have people know you!

I get to this station at least 6 days a week. Sundays not too often though. I have even gotten to know the employees at a couple local restaraunts here that I go to weekly as well. Its kind of nice to be greeted by name at a lot of places. Thanks for sharing also.

Our town is more rural, and yess, the people know us, at the gas station, the grocery, etc. I can imagine that my husband will be doing just like you at one point or another. He is a friendly guy, and loves to visit and to share jokes, must go with the name.

That's a good gesture grandpa, it's like bridging the gap between customer and employees!;)
I do that kind of approach as well, to drop the awkward feeling we have for each other. I treat them as friends, so they could work at ease. Though I don't know most of their names, a wave and simple exchange of smiles would make me feel good already..

There are several different businesses and stores in my town like that, where I know the employees and they know me and many of their other customers, but I do live in a small town. That's one thing I really love about living in a place like this, it's like in like "Cheers" - "Where everyone knows your name".

I just love it when you frequent an establishment every or nearly every day, they look forward to your coming in. I have a gas station like that here in my town as well. I know most of the employees and even know where 2 of them live. I'm always going in there to pick on them. Sometimes I'll pop in when it's slow just to chat.

Well I do sweety but I am afraid I don't get there very often these days! You are right though it is fun and brightens your day when there are people you can relax with and have fun - thats what I try and do when I am working - although I like to keep them in check and shout at them too sometimes! lol Boy are they all in trouble when I make it back to work AGB - they have had it too easy for too long since I haven't been able to work! xxx

I come from a not so small town but most of the stores that i go to have friendly employees... and there is this particular small restaurant or "Karinderya" in my country where the cook/owner would always chat with me about her daughters other employees and husband...
She would also give me some pointers on how to cook a particular food... i simply love going to that place mainly because of the small talk that we do... i hope all stores have friendly employees or owners like that... it will surely be good for the business...
