and I have to tell you its got me quite upset! We live out in the country, on 50 acres of land (mostly woods) and are surrounded by another 300+ acres of mostly woods and thats just property that borders ours...They've been gone since yesterday morning and I've patroled, hunted and walked our land and part of our neighbouring property 4 times since yesterday..my feet are blistered and bloody, my hip and back (which are already damaged to begin with) are killing me, I didnt sleep a flipping wink last night and I'm SO worried i'm not goign to get them back....
Have any of you lost your pets or had them take off? how long before you got them back? did they come home on their own or were they found?

I wonder why they left? when dogs are not happy they run away. I am not saying you mistreated them, but that is a sign, did they brake away from a chain? If you do get them back, you need to invest in a invisible fence.

We have an invisible fence..and like Mare said, my dogs are like my babies. they are treated EXTREMELY well...however once they got away from our land they've become disoriented and CAN'T find their way home...We were tracking them last night but it started to just get too dark to see and with the snow falling it became next to impossible..
Marcia I understand what you are saying, an unhappy dog will bolt but rest assured that is NOT the case with these two..Mares been here, she knows..

Sorry Marcia that is not true. Dogs can get distracted by another animal or just decide to go exploring. Have you had a dog that ran away because he was not happy with you?!!

Believe me, Raven treats her doggies like family!!! As she said she has over 300 acres of land (and she's not lying I've been to her house) and there are jack as*sses that hunt in her property although there are signs posted all over not to trespass.
Rave, you'll get them back. How are the kids holding up?

Oh I do hope they come back soon!! I know what's it like!
Our dog has escaped our backyard some many times (esp at first once she figured out there was another world beyond our yard and until we found a great way to keep her in). My hubby will got out canvasing the neighborhood until he gives up or finds her. Sometimes he does find her but other times the neighbor behinds us calls the dog warden and he has got her a couple of times (but we got her back both times). We also have two other good neighbors that actually looks out for her and keeps her for us if they see her. During all these times we worked on third (of course we're back there again LOL) so we'd be asleep in the afternoons and it's so dark in the back we won't know she was gone until we got home the next morning. Which sucks but what ya gonna do?
Once she was gone for like 2 weeks and we'd given up hop e on getting her back then we went to renew my drivers license and I'll be damn - there she was at our small court house just walking around!!!! It was a good 2 miles from our house too!
Once though a neighbor a few streets over actually stole her off the street!!! Luckily he was dumb enough to actually walk her around here and my hubbys friend (neighbor across the street) seen her and came to get us as soon as we got home the next morning. He knew where the theft lived - so they went and took her! She wasn't feeling well as she hadn't been eating good those few days he had her. But she was really excited to see my hubby and ran up and jumped on him as soon as he walked into the door. That was the last time she escaped and it's been a while THANKFULLY lol.

"Once she was gone for like 2 weeks "
omG I would have gone absolutely BONKERS!! These two were gone for almost 3 days and I've been out of my mind worried....nevermind a week or more...I'd go nuts!
LOL a neighbour stole her but took her for walks in the area?! OMG I would have knocked the everloving nonsense out of the guy! TWICE! (once for each of my dogs LOL)....Glad you got her back every time though...

I had an indoor Siamese cat that was lost for two weeks and some kids found her under a bush just 2 streets away. She was starving but after a good meal and some loving she was fine. The worst was my Schatzie (my avatar) who got out and she was only 6 months old Ran down out street , I chased after her, slipped and fell into a ravine, she went down and up the ravine into the woods. I have to go to the hospital as I injured my elbow, the bone was sticking out of the skin. Waited in the ER for 4 hours with me crying my eyes out for my lost baby. Got home at 11pm but no Schatzie and it was the coldest night we had had only 23F. I bawled the whole night next morning I went to feed the other 2 dogs and thought I heard a strange noise so I opened the front door and there was my baby freezing cold and shivering. How she found her way back and where she hadd been I'll never know as my neighbors had searchd everywhere for her. Happy ending... she came home and I got a metal plate and 2 screws put into my elbow!

I'm so sorry that your dogs are missing. I know how stressful that is. Have you called the pound to see if they were turned in? i lost my huskies a few times. Most of the time they would show up back at home with porcupine quills to pull. Hopefully yours will be home soon.

Yea we've been on the phone (me here at home and my husband at work) with Animal Control from our county and the surrounding counties, all the local vets in our area and surrounding areas, we've talked to neighbours adn I'll be going out tonight to post flyers as well....I hope they get home safe...They've broken the fence line before AND when Ive taken them out in the woods for a walk they've wandered but NOTHING like this...When I call, they come ya know..so this is just killing me..

Yea they've been gonen since yesterday morning...I'm goin out of my effin mind here Mare..Seriously...the kids are worried but they're more worried about me and my health I think....they know that I'll be stupid and push myself WAY too far trying to find the dogs...
I want to go out again but my feet are so bad from all the walking yesterday and this morning I won't even be able to get my damn boots back on...BUT I was smart enough to cut up some old shirts and wipe myself with them (for the scent) and drop them periodically out back...plus I made sure I touch as much trees etc as possible and my husband just got off the phone with PAWS in this area and they suggested putting out something they are very fmailiar with (I'll take they're beds out) and leave it out there, the wind will carry the scent....I just want them home ya know...

My dog just ran away the other night. I put him out in the backyard and when I went back to get him he was gone. I have no idea how he got out and we live in the downtown of our city so I was worried. My hubby and I walked the neighbourhood many times. It got dark and being thats he's a black dog we had given up. About 2 hours later I heard him barking and when I went to look out the door he was on my front porch barking to get in. Alot of dogs come back on their own, they say that dogs can smell their way back. Good luck to you and I hope they come back soon

Maybe the dogs were in heat? who knows, I think everyone should invest in an invisible fence.

Oh Ravenladyj I'm so sorry to hear this. I would go ballistic if somehow I was missing one of my cats...they are indoor cats in an apartment but I'm so cautious when I open the front door it's not funny as I don't want them to run out.
Do your dogs have microchips to track/trace them?? My prayers go out to you that you find your babies

I'm really sorry your dogs are missing. I will say a prayer that they show up safe and sound. I'm sure they will. Dogs can always find their way back home.

I hope you are able to get them back. I have only lost my dog a couple of times and only cause he slipped out of the leash. I was always able to catch him in a few minutes but it was still worrying to not know where he was or what roads he'd run on.
You might want to invest in a physical fence rather than an invisible one though. The invisible fences aren't that secure, many dogs run through them for various reasons, could be wildlife or something else, and won't come back inside the fence once they're out. I would never trust my dog outside alone for even a minute if the only fence to keep him home was an invisible fence.

I am so sorry your dogs got out, I hope you have had luck finding them or getting closer now. One of my cats got outside once and ran into a corn field because she had figured out how to open the porch door (smart cat). I walked through the six foot tall corn searching for that cat for nearly an hour and when I gave up I went to head back towards the house and there she was, sitting in the middle of the driveway.
There have been worse scenarios, I'd rather not discuss them because I believe they would upset you but I do hope you get your doggies back.
