They found a fossil of a rodent that weigh about 2000 pound or 1000 kg. The giant creature probably ate soft food such as fruit or tender plants, Andres Rinderknecht and Ernesto Blanco of the National Museum of Natural History in Montevideo reported on Wednesday. "We report the discovery of an exceptionally well preserved fossil skull of a new species of rodent, by far the largest ever recorded," they wrote in a report in Britain's Proceedings of the Royal Society. Can you imagine a rat of that size and what would happen to your cat if he or she comes across one of those. Lucky that they are no longer around. It is indeed a shocking discovery, but note that the "cats" of its time, the Smilodons (a saber-toothed tiger), were formidable predators, even for an animal of this rodent's size.

Wow! I wonder what a a one tone rodent looks like! I think it would be very fleshy-know here in Uganda we eat giant rats-they weight 4-8 kgs and they are a delicacy here-just imagine a rodent the size of a Hippo! Whatever caused their extinction?
