I did a question a few days on ago on small kitchen appliances about what people have and what do they like and not like. http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1381407.aspx One of the comments made by several people is they don't have the storage for small appliances. So my question is, if you have many small appliances and have a small kitchen where do you store your overflow from the kitchen. Or have you come up with ingenious ways to store things in your kitchen? Let us in on your secret!

I don't have this problem either, because we don't keep a lot of appliances. we only buy new if the ones we have are not usable. I'm sure you have a space at the bottom part of your stove, at least for pans.

You know I don't have space at the bottom of the stove. I wish I did, that is one thing I will get whenever I get a new stove.

Ok, where I'm living now the kitchen is huge with tons of cupboard space so I just stick stuff pretty much where I want. I did have to make some changes though as when I moved in my 'landlord/roommate' tended to leave everything on the counter and this drove me crazy - too much clutter. Where I lived before there was a small walk-in closet off the kitchen - I built shelves in there and stored most of my things in there as the kitchen was extremly small - microwave, toaster, George Forman and griddle all managed to stay on the counter top though. Griddle on top of microwave and the other two were under some wire shelves that sat on the counter and held bread and such.

Man, I would give anything for a huge kitchen with tons of storage. I have this little rinky-dinky one that is just so frustrating. And to have a pantry off of the kitchen would be heaven.

Personally I think the kitchen is the most important room in the house. When I owned my own home my family spent more time there than any place else - home work, visiting, eating, playing games, doing puzzles, working on projects. The kitchen table seemed to have something going on it 24/7 and was always nice to be able to be close to the kids while cooking or doing dishes, canning, freezing, making jellies - all the 'homey' things I used to do.

Poor mum hasn't even got a microwave because there is just no room for one, her kitchen is very small, it's a badly designed house sadly. But there is a lot of cupboard space and mum has a talent of getting everything in there, tidily and knowing where everything is! She doesn't even have a washing machine and has to go to the local laundermat on a Sunday. I don't know how she survives on the basics but she's very resourceful!

Wolfie, I think a lot depends on what you were raised with. Unfortunately the kitchens of the 40's and 50's were not designed for the appliances we have now a days and even many newer houses have the same old kitchen design of as 50 year old houses space and storage wise unless you are quite well off. I know about the laundromat. I have to go there to wash large items, it is not a pleasant experience but I have been through worse things.

We keep things we use rarely, like the Wok, downstairs in our spare room. We keep things in the original box so it stays clean even in the basement.

That is handy. I would think that then you would tend to forget about them and use them evenless.

I have always wanted an island to put my small appliances in. I want each of them to have a pull our drawer that I can just use them on. However, that does not seem to be in the plan for now. So my small appliance are on the counter.

I have seen these things on TV, that are shelves that somehow move into and out of the cabinet with the appliance on it. That would be great for heavy things. But, alas, I know how you feel about things not being in the plan. Of course if I put an island in my kitchen there would be no room for a cook.

If it isn't on a counter, it is in a cabinet. I did give a few of my things to my daughter when she was here last time. I have the deep fryer and toaster on the counter and an under the cabinet can opener (I love that thing). On my dining room counter, I have my breadmaker and toaster oven. My GT Express 101 is tucked there, also with my pizzelle maker. All of the rest of my small kitchen appliances are stored in a small cupboard.

Oh..a pizzelle maker, mmm, ,love those things, I had one a long time ago, lent it someone, who gave it back several years later, complaining I needed a new one because the one I lent her no longer worked. It sounds like you have quite a collection and plenty of counterspace for them, you are lucky.

I have very small kitchen on main floor and mini kitchen in my basement. In my main kitchen I still have a lot of room left. Maybe because I don't keep in my house what I don't use. Also I have very tall kitchen cabinets. In my mini kitchen I keep only coffee and tea making appliances. My best friend kitchen is 3 times bigger than mine and she doesn't have many appliances, but she has porcelain sets for probably 200 people. She always complain that she needs bigger kitchen....

Setting for 200 people...wow, I got my corelle for 8 and that fills up a whole shelf plus. I like that, a main kitchen and a mini-kitchen. I wouldn't mine that. I do flavored coffees and we have multiple coffee makers so that is a whole shelf plus..and that is not counting the cups and travel mugs.

We have a cabinet here, since our kitchen has lots of space to move along. We put some of the appliances and other stuffs in it, that we don't we seldom use. For small knives and other dining utensils, we stack them on their shelves.

You are very lucky to have lots of space. My kitchen is very small. I only have 1 decent size drawer. The rest are less then 6 inches wide.

Since I don't have many small kitchen appliances, they get stored up in the cupboard with the rest of my plates, cups, etc. I'm one that doesn't see the need to have every single appliance on the market, and can mix, cook, bake, what have you just fine with what I do have.

That is excellent. I think we see so many of these commercials and the stuff looks so good, it takes a lot of self control not to order them all. My son, who could be a professional eater, when he lived at home was always trying to talk me into buying all of them. He also likes to cook, so they enticed him.

When I moved from my house into an apartment I had the problem of finding a place for my small kitchen appliances so I purchased a tall bookshelf and put doors on the bottom. It looks nice in the dining room and it gives me a place to store things just outside the kitchen area but not too far away. I use the upper shelves to display my tea pot collection and a few pieces of my favorite crystal as well as a few small plants. Some times you just have to be creative...

That is a nice idea, using the top part to display your collection and the bottom for storage. I think we all need ideas. Most people have kitchens that just can't hold todays appliances

I actually have several small appliances...some I use but not all the time so they have to be stored. I use the cupboards that are right over the stove. They are really too high for anything else and yet if I need them I can get to them easily. I also have two small cabinets over the fridge where I keep my Stoneware mixing bowls. I love them but rarely use them so they can go up there. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Hi. Debs_place. I don't have that many appliances in my kitchen right now. I only have a fridge, stove, microwave and a dishwasher. I have plenty of room to store these items at. I do have a can opener that I keep in the cabinet. I have plenty of room for my appliances.
