Which do you think is more difficult...

Writing a new piece or doing an edit or rewrite of one you already completed? I seem to have more trouble with rewriting. I don't know why that is, except that I don't like the flow interruptions that happen when I start cutting and pasting.

Oh I definately think that rewriting is harder for me. Especially if I have spent a lot of time working on it already. Maybe I just don't have much of an interest in the mechanics as much as the creation.

Yes I think that explains me as well. Very well put with the mechanics rather than creation line.

That is certainly a hard call. For me I think it depends on the article. There are some articles that I can write perfectly straight away, then there are others that I struggle and struggle with. Sometimes when I sit done for a rewrite I look at the original and wonder what on earth I was thinking. Generally when I rewrite there is not much cutting and pasting as it all gets scrapped! I have found using markdown (I think that what it is called) where the text you delete gets a line through it. That way if there was anything worth keeping I can easily see it! How is your writing going?

That's a great feature, I've never used it. I may give that a try. Writing is up and down lately. I have a star, finally, at Helium, but I have no confidence I will keep it. Some of my articles' rank fluctuates so much I'm getting motion sickness from looking at them. I think I need to stop looking and just focus on writing. I'm not getting a huge response to articles I post in the forum there for feedback. Maybe I need to post them here.

Yeah I have found the response much better here than on the discussion boards at Helium. You can also get a mentor from helium, I did it when I first started and it wasn't too bad. It is so hard staying motivated and not get disheartened. Congrats on the star that is really cool.

What do you mean? An article? Or a poem? Well sometimes if I’m not in the mood to have a new one I sometimes revive my old writings like my poems. I read all of it and get an inspiration out of it. An article is a little bit of hard especially if you’re given a topic. Normally I read sources in order to come up with a new one.

Hello! I also find it easier to write new stories. I have a long time since I don't write anything. I find it hard to name characters, really. Once in a while, ideas pop up in my head, but I end up not putting them into the paper. Since I was a child, I was encouraged to write small stories (for school), so I find it hard to write big stories. I write small ones and try to rewrite, but there lies the problem. Respectfully.

I find it much easier to write a piece, rather than to edit it. Most people find it difficult to edit their own work, as they tend to miss little mistakes because in their mind they know what they wanted to write, so they see what they wanted to write, and not what they actually wrote. However, I find editing or rewriting someone eles's work extremely easy.

I love to edit because I like to improve things that I have already finished or am nearly finished with. Unfortunately, I might have to go with 'writing' because I have this horrible tendency to never finish anything that I write that extends beyond the reach of a short story. Basically, I never get the opportunity to find out how I feel about rewriting or editing because I don't edit any long term projects. (I have several that are now a few hundred pages in length, still incomplete. They're just sitting in my filing cabinet, collecting dust.)

For me it depends on the content that I have to write about that make it somewhat difficult to start. Gathering data about the topic to fully establish a good piece. But then, it seems relieving when we get over it.. well, until re-edits come up. I sometimes feel uneasy when a piece that I had troubled on doing needs more "alterations" for those who are going to read it. Yeah, of course, I wrote it for others to read but, changes seem to alter the authenticity that I had built up on the work.

I think writing something new is more fun and the re write is more work. I find it boring and get sick of it. I would rather just make something new. Also I usually end up wanting to put more and more stuff in when I do a rewrite.

I agree with you. Rewriting is more difficult than writing a new one. I also prefer to write a something new because it definitely comes from my heart and mind. The trouble with re-writing is that I end up totally revising the piece.
