Okay... with my advocacy to promote the love for trees and the uploading a tree here in mylot... i would just like to ask if any of you has ever done this?... have you ever given the tree or trees in your backyard a specific name?...
We give names to out pets but i think trees are living creatures to that deserve one... i have encountered general tree names such as: Tree of Live, The Giving Tree, and The Tree with the Fruit of Knowledge of Good and Evil... i think trees deserve a much cooler name than these...
In my case, i plan to plant a tree or two when i finally have a house of my own with a backyard big enough... I plan to name my first tree as Molly and the second one Athena...
What do you think?...

Trees along the roadside are one of my favorite sceneries... they make me feel relax when the travel is quite long... it is good that planting trees along the roadside is encouraged in your country... and i hope all country would do that... thanks for the response...

Athena is a lovely name for a tree. We call one of our potted plants Athena. We have had this plant for about 30 years and as we cannot take our Athena back and forth between our winter and summer homes, as it is illegal to cross the state line with a potted plant, we have to take cuttings and root them in water while traveling. We haven't killed it yet although once it had a pretty close call.
Obviously we cannot do this with a tree, but there is a little clump of trees in our neighborhood that we call "Henley's Dragon" because when our neighbor Henley was about 90 years old he would point at that clump of trees and ask the same question, "Don't you think that looks like a dragon?" I would always say, "Yes, Henley, if there ever was a dragon that is it!" Now whenever my husband and I have time to look up as we pass that area we always say to each other, "There is Henley's Dragon!" He has been gone between 10 and 20 years now at least. Still, wherever Henley is now, I'm sure that whenever we say that, he is smiling.

I wanted to name my baby Athena but my husband objected because he thinks the name is too common... now, i think he won't object to a tree named Athena... why is it illegal to cross the state line with a potted plant?... i don't see anything wrong with that... i am glad that you went out of your way justo to preserve your Athena's life...
I also like Henley's Dragon... the story behind the name is quite interesting... thanks for the response...

They have agricultural checkpoints to prevent produce from across the border from carrying insects or pathogens that might be hiding in the dirt of a plant or in fruit from getting into the commercial fields. We cannot carry fresh fruit in the car for a snack or anything like that. It is to protect the farmers. It is a good law.

Ok, now I understand... it is indeed a good law that protects the welfare not only of the farmer but the plants and animals as well... we don't have that kind of law in my country since ours is a small one compared to the US... thanks for the enlightenment...

What a sweet and gentle discussion! Since I don't own my home, I am very fortunate to have the tree of my dreams right outside of my window. I have loved magnolia trees all of my life. The one that I have attached to this is not mine because I am not at home right now, but even if I were it is January and she wouldn't be in bloom anyway! And yes, my name for her is not very original, but I do call her "Maggie". All of my plants have names, as well as my crystals. Blessed Be~Donna

Hello aseretdd,
I never think of it. Well, as you know I am not really good at this. To plant a tree is quite a hassle for me *smiles* Anyway, it is a good idea to name a tree. Same like what we do to our cats and dogs. Given a specific name to each tree definitely a good idea. Thumbs up!

I remember your problem with plants... but i remember that i read somewhere about having a personal or close relationship with plants tend to make them healthier... or they would bloom more beautiful flowers or more delicious fruits... so giving them names is a start to that kind of relationship... thanks for the response...
