I've been inspired by one of my sweetest friends who responded to one of my older discussions, about a woman who left her baby in the car to go shopping. My sister just told me about this recently and I find it APPALLING, so I looked it up online. NASA has invented a sensor for your car called a "Child Presence Sensor". It's a reminder to take the baby out of the car for parents with too much on their minds. Am I crazy to think this is just the most ridiculous thing to have ever heard of? And again, I'm asking the same question....."HOW DO YOU FORGET YOUR BABY?"!!! Grant you, this WILL save lives, little tiny baby lives, little tiny children's lives, and I totally understand that part of it. What I STILL don't understand and NEVER WILL is what can be so important on your mind that you forget a baby? A helpless little tiny person? Here's the link for anyone who thinks this is just plain ridiculous, or for all you parents out there with too much on your minds that you might forget your babies and go shopping. Maybe I'll save a life here. http://nasaexplores.nasa.gov/show2_5_8a.php?id=02-041&gl=58 This is the first time I'm posting a link, so I hope it works for everyone.....take care, and take care of your children!

Not all babies are left in cars accidentally. Just before Christmas I was shopping and as I was leaving I saw a baby of about 12 to 18 months setting in the car seat parked in front of me. I went into the store to report it and they put it out over the intercom. The mother did not rush out to get her baby out of the car. she continued shopping. I know because I waited with the store manager as we watched the car to see that nothing happened. It just happened to be cool enough that day that the car didn't heat up harming the baby. So this device wouldn't do any good for that type of mother.

Thank you deebomb for responding to this...I never knew you did and I apologize for not getting back to you sooner....mylot never let me know, hmmm. Anyway, that is such a disgraceful story to hear...I can't imagine what in the world is going on today with all this garbage. Pretty soon they'll need security guards patroling the parking lots looking for little orphaned babies sitting in cars....while mama is shopping. What a disgusting thought and no, that device won't work for all parents, if you want to call them that. Thanks and take care.

I have often wondered that too! How can you forget a child? But it's a good thing someone is doing something to prevent any more kids from dying in hot cars or freezing because they have been left in subzero temps!

I do get your drift...and if they have to turn on the sensors are they going to remember to do that?

Yes, I agree, it is a good thing. I just wonder where this is all going to lead to.....like, are they going to have a sensor to remind you that it's time to feed the babies or kids too?, if you get my drift.

It's pretty strange that we live in a world now where people are so distracted and so busy they need a device to remind them to get a baby out of a car! Maybe we need to rethink some of our priorities, hmmm?

Yes, I guess babies aren't considered priorities any more....and I can't imagine what would be more important, not in a million years. Can you even think what the future is going to like with this going on?......Animals will be the better parents, which most of them are now anyways.

I know it's an appalling thing to think about, but why, if the alarm goes off ten times initially, would it have to go off again if the parent didn't respond? This causes me to think that nobody does "forget" that they have their baby in the car because they have a lot on their minds. I think some people purposely leave their baby in the car because they think they will only be a couple of minutes... then something happens to drag that couple of minutes out, and the baby is forgotten at this point. Then, before you know it, the baby has been there for an hour and is suffering from heat or lack of oxygen... and that's only if nobody snatched them, already, which does happen. I think the alarm should go off VERY loudly, from the car, as soon as the car door is locked, and the baby still inside. This would attract the attention of many other people, who would possibly give the mother a guilt feeling, to the extent that she would HAVE to take the baby from the car. lol. Brightest Blessings.

Isn't it just plain pathetic? Like you mentioned, it goes off ten times and "IF THEY DON'T RESPOND", like what the heck? I can't even believe that they have to mention that in the description. Not only should they have a VERY loud alarm, it should have a loud voice speaker too that yells out "HEY, YOU FORGOT YOUR BABY, IDIOT!"

Rant away, rant away...LOL I think this is so totally stupid beyond words, for as you say, how the heck can one actually forget that they have a baby or young child with them in a car. I can't believe anyone would have so much on their mind as to forget their child...I mean what dire thing could a person be thinking of that is so important they would forget they took their children/baby with them....I don't think it takes much brainpower to think of picking up milk, eggs or whatever at a supermarket...it's not like the person is mulling over the next greatest cure for cancer

This is going to make it much more easier to put the children and little tiny babies on the bottom of the priority list, if you know what I mean. It's almost like they're telling them it's OK now to forget your kid, we'll remind you. How horrible and I can't believe this has actually come to this point in this day and age. Children use to be the most important thing in your life years ago.....it's now becoming a thing of the past and it's just a reproduction process. Have a kid, we'll all remind you it's around.

They did this on CSI. Apprently there are three or four deaths a year from kids left in cars. I could never understand doing it to a dog, but your kid!

There is probably alot more than three or four deaths a year, Minotaur, and no, I can't understand it either. Human life has become unimportant, and shopping has become top priority today.

Hey girlfriend yes your link worked.LOL And I enjoyed it thanks. Nasa is great for inventing something that remarkable. Im sorry I still dont get how you can forget your child. Geez I wouldnt even forget my kitties. Well they are my children.heheheh I might have to look into one of those for Maggie and Molly.LOL I was going through some of your old discussions and this one stood out to me. And of course you Kashmere burning his tail from the candle.LOL But seriously Im glad NASA came up with that I think it will save alot of little ones. Good job!

Hi Sugar,...exactly, I bet these people don't forget their pets but they'll forget their babies. Each one is precious beyond comparison and each is totally dependent on you....helpless without you. I am relieved in one way that NASA came out with this, but so totally revolted and repulsed that they "HAD" to.

I saw something on the news last night about it. I think it is really sad that someone would actually need to purchase one of these, but if everyone had one then a lot of babies would still be alive.

Yes, you are so correct. Many lives will be saved in the future because of incomprehensible behavior.

I totally understand your frusterations with this one. Every time I hear about this happening, I want to go out and lock the parent involved in the trunk of their own car and see how long they can hang. It is absolutely absurd. I have five kids, and always have a ton of stuff on my mind, but I have never ever even come close to forgetting one of them in the car. It is absurd. Some people should just not even have children.

No, they should not have children. When they get locked in the trunk, it needs to be 100 degrees outside also, then they'll get a taste of what it's like. I can't believe its really come to this, that they actually have to be reminded.

I am right there with you on this one. Parents who purchase one of those child presence sensors should automatically get turned in to child protective services. What do you do when you are done feeding the baby and get involved in doing dishes and helping the other kids with the homework and getting your big presentation together for work tomorrow and you have left your baby in a high chair all night. I said it before in a discussion of mine that stupid people shouldn't be allowed to breed. This just further strengthens that belief of mine.

Hey, you got something there, they should be turned in to child protective services. Unfortunately, stupid people already have the children and I feel sorry for those kids. If they can forget them in cars, I can imagine what they do in their houses behind closed doors. They really need stronger laws on this matter, not just a little slap on the hand.
