How often do you have Wind Chill Advisory and State Warnings?

Today is one of those extreme cold days. When I check the weather, I noticed Wind Chill Advisory and state warnings for state of Illinois. This means that very cold air and strong wind will combine to generate potentially dangerous wind chills. Frost bite and hypothermia may result. I am staying home for sure.

I live in upper Michigan, so it happens pretty often here. It amazes me that the people who have always lived here are able to shrug off the cold so casually and go about their daily routines, when all I want to do is curl up in a blanket! :P I haven't checked the weather forecast yet for today, but when I walked to the store to buy milk earlier today, I was freezing even while bundled! I certainly won't be walking to work!

Yup, yup, I'm a Yooper! Well, okay, I'm not a Yooper by birth, but I've lived here for almost 9 years now. I live in Houghton, so I'm right up by the Keweenaw. :)

I now live in Nevada, so little if ever, although the other day I was looking at Weatherbug and it showed Winter Weather Advisories for areas just above my county. However, I used to live in Michigan, so those were very common there.

Uh, yeah it is. Quite a bit I must say. Right now, our daytime highs are between 40-60 while in Michigan they're currently running under 20 with snow. In the summer, it can get to about 90 with humidity as well, while here in Nevada, it's usually over 100 for three months straight, but it's dry (so is an oven LOL)

Two penguins - It's cold outside let's move to florida said the one penguin to the other.
I live in Florida and one of the things that just makes me laugh is when it gets into the 40s (and sometimes into the high 30s[once this year]) there will be advisories to get the kids and pets inside, cover the plants, and so on. I go outside and am like this actually isn't that bad, coming from up north when you got advisory there it meant... you go outside you freeze... literally.

ha, ha,..... yes, you are right. when you have -5F with wind chill to -25F, nothing is funny.....at 40F is almost like spring... When I was on Florida in December few years ago, people get cold at 55F, it was actually warm....lol

I used to have to go out no matter what but now that I'm retired I stay in on days when its potentially dangerous to be out whether its the extreme cold, snow, sleet, or freezing rain.

I live in Minnesota and we have the windchill advisories a lot here. We've had the warnings out for a few days in a row at night now actually. I woke up at 7 a.m. to 17 below zero temps and a windchill of 44 below zero. Getting a major thaw this weekend though. We will be wearing shorts when the temps get near 40 above. HAHAHA!! HAPPY POSTIMNGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

my husband actually told me it can get colder there than here because of snow belt. I don't know if you call it the same thing but that's what he calls it. he said the last few years it's been colder there than here. I admit I didn't spend much time outside the last few years since I quit my job and started the business so I only heard what weather channel or radio said when I was in the car

We have some every once in a while during winter, but I confess that if it was me issuing those warnings there would be much more LOL That wind sometimes seems like it's coming straight from a deep freezer brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :)

I have the same amount of windchill and warnings as you do, polachicago. Wonder why....lol The weather channel icon on my desktop is flashing red like crazy so after bringing up several loads of firewood, I'm keeping my butt inside near the fire where it's toasty warm.
