i think we meet really interesting people on vacation. although sometimes i feel that i am at the age when i am quite tired of making new acquaintances, travelling can be a good opportunity to meet new people and have interesting conversations. recently i met some people and we were being sociable because we had time to kill and they were in the same area. Fellow travellers have so many stories to share. of where they have been recently, what part of their journey this was, and how long they were travelling, their own culture, how day to day life is in their country , why they are travelling.... all very interesting! there were two couples i met who were travelling for more than a year. one couple was travelling from asia to australia to south america! they buy one way tickets and then decide after a few months or weeks whether they were sick of that place. of course they had also saved up for a long time for this trip and were going budget most of the time. how about you? do you usually keep to yourself because you enjoy some solitude on your travels, or do you strike up conversations with fellow travellers?

This is kinda hard for me to answer - I do both. Truthfully I am uncomfortable talking to people I don't know and don't make friends easily but I will at times come out of my shell and have conversations with strangers. I've particularly found myself doing this while on vacation as we usually go camping (with a tent) and there's something about being outside in nature that makes it easier for me to talk to 'my neighbors'.

Oh they sure are. One time youngest and I were camping and we got horrid storms, wind and rain. Well, everything ended up getting wet, cloths, bedding, everything. After the storm passed my oldest son showed up and said all the power was out at home so I figured we would tough it out at the campground where we at least had bathroom facilaties. I couldn't believe it, I had strangers offering extra sleeping bags, people bringing wood to my campsite for a fire, and people standing around that fire holding our cloths to dry them out. It was very touching and fun at the same time.

i guess the girl guides and boy scounts just emerge within us in situations like this. somehow when everyone is walled up in their own homes, the sense of community is lessened and the concrete barriers also become personal barriers to relationships...

I do love to meet others along the way and even on my point of destination, I am always eager and willing to learn and share something from them. As for fellow travellers, I seldom make contacts and hang out into conversations with them because some might be just after our money or anything as such. I talk to them when only asked about something, a simple yes or no and that's all. Sometimes, I'm just too busy looking out on the scenery that I don't want to be disturbed!;) But I do mingle with the locales there, I always love to look for something interesting and unique in that particular area..
