Do you have a food stash?

Ok, you don't have to be overweight and unhealthy in order to have a food stash. You could, instead, be someone who just wants to save something for yourself. For example, when I lived at home, if I bought certain cereal bars, I would stash them in my room so that I could bring one to work everyday and no one else would eat them. I know that if someone ate them I could buy more or they could buy me more, but sometimes it's nice to know something is there b/c there's nothing worth then getting your hopes up for something just to find someone else ate it!! Now that I'm married I still find myself stashing food. I leave it all in the kitchen, but I will hide things in the bottom or back of the fridge, or in the back of the cabinet. If my husband eats it, I won't go nuts, but I will be a little disappointed. Luckily I know him well enough to know that if he doesn't easily see it, he usually won't eat it. I have good reason to do this! Last wed we bought Pink Lemonade and he stated he didn't really like Pink Lemonade, just regular lemonade. So I said "good! Then don't drink it!" Well I had about 2 glasses and today it is allllll gone b/c he had no soda or other choices in the fridge so he finished off my lemonade! It's not that I'm mad about it, just that I wish I would have stashed it :) If I know someone really likes something in the fridge, I will go out of my way NOT to eat it and leave it for them. However when it comes to my food, others always say "I can just buy you some more if I eat it". It's not the point that someone can buy me more, it's the point that when I'm in the mood for it, and it's gone, it's sad :( So how about you? Do you have a stash and if so what are you hiding? Where are you hiding it? Does your family know about it?

I am definately not overweight, but I do love my food. And I have to hide things otherwise my hubby will eat it all, he does not know the meaning of restraint. If I leave something in open view, it will be gone before I know it. Sometimes I will buy something like a candy bar and eat it before I get home, at least that way I can enjoy it without him saying, 'Where's mine!'

Yeah I know what you are saying. Some people see it and must eat it now. I don't want to always say "No, you can't have any" b/c it makes them think I'm being mean, so it's actually nicer of you to eat it when they don't even know about it :-D That way they don't miss it b/c they never knew it was even there.

I dont have a food stash as such, but what I tend to do is if I see something I fancy for myself when I am doing the food shopping I buy it and I do stick it to the back of the cupboard where no one else can spot it! Then I sneaky eat it when they are all out! With me its usually crisps or something like that. But I know if I leave it in view then my husband or my kids will eat them all! Dont get me wrong I dont mind sharing but just sometimes it is so nice to think you are having something all for yourself! And the lesson I learnt was that if I did buy something for me and decided I was feeling kind enough to share it, then my family dont just have a few they have to have most of it!! I totally agree with you when you say how you go out of your way not to eat something when you know others really like it, but its so true that they say they will get you some more when they eat yours and that is so annoying and when they do that I always say no it doesnt matter I didnt want it anyway, but inside im really upset!! Oh and at the moment I have a big tub of nuts stashed in the cupboard, they were a new flavour and I wanted to try them, but the best thing is they were discovered but my hubby cant eat them and the kids dont like them!! Great.

I have done that too, stash it behind things. It's not really hiding it, but it's less likely they will see it :) I don't say "no it doesn't matter" though, I say "yes, go buy me some more tomorrow :)"

oh yes! I do this too! I've been married for 21 years and have two daughters. When I buy something that I really, really want, I'll hide it in the back of a cupboard, or way up high! If I want something gone quickly, then I make sure to put it right up front. Another thing I have done is put things in the freezer to hide them! lol! The girls never look in the freezer, unless they are looking for ice cream ;) and I make sure if I'm hiding something there, it's not near the ice cream!

I do stash my own food as well, some snack here and there or even energy bars and chocolates for my pleasure!;) I would put some in our fridge, but when my 5 year old niece always sees it so I hide it inside the vegetable shelf or even in freezers!;) I also put some inside my drawer cabinets, those that I know won't attract ants or pests. But mostly, I hide it away from my niece's watchful eyes and insatiable appetite!LoL

Yep, kids always seem to see those things in the fridge! Good idea to keep it stashed from her.

Oh is this ever funny and does it hit home for me. I had to do that all the time when my mother was alive...She had a real wicked sweet tooth. Now I've never eaten many sweets, but once in awhile I confess having a sugar or especially chocolate attack...I learned to "stash" sweets after one particular incident occurred and in this case I was mad as hell at my mother. Have you ever heard of that Swiss Colony place...get their catalog of yummies? Well one year before Christmas I ordered a ton of stuff, thinking that since I often made up my own gift baskets to give as presents I could use some of the things from Swiss Colony to fill them with, particularly their little petit fours. Now without an exaggeration I must have ordered about 200 of them...all different flavors. Well, like I said I was going to use many of them as part of my gift baskets...uh, didn't quite work out that way. Now petit fours can be very luscious..eat too many and you can get real sick..well that is exactly what my mother did. She pop about 20 at a time and wonder why she was groaning with gastritis. I had a few to eat NOT MANY...well all said and done I may have had a total of 10 while my mother ate the rest...yes she ate them all and I had none for my gift baskets, so yes I was furious. So after that, anytime I got some box of cookies or anything I'd stash them away...in my closet...LOL

That's how I was too, I didn't need a ton of chocolate, but every so often I just wanted a piece and I knew if I let everyone know it was there, it would be gone before I ate it. People used to go nuts at how long it took me to eat a chocolate bunny at easter and would always try to beg me for some! But I always saved it until I wanted it. I like Swiss colony, very yummy, so I stay away from them :) Too tempting!! That is a lot!!! I could never eat that many. But I see your point exactly. Some people MUST eat them if they are there, they don't get the point of saving them and spacing them out. I am big on only having some when I really want it, not just b/c it's there.

I actually do have sort of a food stash...except mine is more of a candy stash...I keep it in my room in one of the parts of my desk....and whenever i get in the mood for some candy and no one has any all I do is go into my stash and get whatever I want and just eat it in my room where no one finds out about it! I am hiding a bunch of choc. candy that we got at the store at about a month ago and whenever we first got it home I went and got me several handfuls and brought it to my room and put it up then and since then I haven't had a problem!

I used to do the candy thing, but I'm addicted to candy now so I try not to do that anymore :) I used to do that too, eat it real quick in my room. With my luck though, my mom would knock on the door soon as I took a bite and say "what's that? Do you have chocolate???" So then after getting caught a few times she thought I FOR SURE had chocolate even when I really didn't.
