I need some ideas to get rid of & prevent static...it always seems to be so bad in the winter when everything is dry...I am so static-y (couldn't fogure out how to spell this word!) sometimes even the fuzz on my socks is standing straight up! I see sparks when I touch a lot of things, too! It seems to be worse with certain kinds of clothes (fleece especially!) Know any good tips or tricks?

Trying running a humidifier or boiling water on the stove if you don't have a humidifier. It's due to the humidity being low in the winter time. Hopefully this helps. I always put a big pan of water on to boil in the morning when I first get up to help prevent this problem. So far this winter no static problems in the house. YaY!

..say I'm going to try that! I always use lotion and or a hair conditioner all over after a shower, and this helps too..

That is a good idea...I've tried buying about 10 different humidifiers in my lifetime and they never work...lotion does help sometimes, too

I have an electronic air filter, which cuts down a lot and use a fabric softner in the wash. I still have a little static sometimes but it really helps a lot using those two things.

I never use fabric softener...I have it, I just don't usually remember to put it in...that's worth a shot!

I don't have this problem at home, but I do when I get to work! I'll take my coat off and my skirts or pants will just stick to my legs! Like another reader, we keep a can of static guard on hand for those instances. It doesn't happen all the time, just occasionally. I'll check out the website that someone else posted about and see if they have any help for businesses.

I consider this one the Mother of All Static Sites, but if you want you can skip over the technical stuff down to where they list tips for survival. You and your computer will both thank them: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A6378744

Static seems to be the worst at my work. So there we keep a big can of Static Guard handy to spray ourselves and our work areas. At home we don't seem to have much of a problem until you where someting fleecy, especially around the dog or cat. Try rubbing a dryer sheet (one with static prevention in it) on your clothes. I've also heard of people rubbing them on their dogs (be careful not to rub around the eyes or mouth) but more for covering up their smell than static. I've heard keeping pans of water in various rooms of your house helps to add humidity and reduce static.
