This is really ridiculous. her house was demolished by tornado and now she has to pay for cable damage.
"I just couldn't believe it," Beam said. "I was like, 'What are they thinking?'"
Time Warner Cable billed a number of Wheatland residents for equipment damaged in the Jan. 7 twister. Beam's bill covered five cable boxes and five remote controls.
She could not believe it. Can you?

The spokeswoman for time warner did say it was a misunderstanding, so I guess that she didn't have to pay that bill. Human error is all around us, we have caught the electric company before over charging us. So, as long as the misunderstanding was taken care of, just chalk it up to error.. The others they did charge were those who changed services and didn't say anything about the tornado, thus trying to cheat time warner..

It does suggest, later in the story, that Time Warner might have billed only for 'unreturned equipment'. What a shame that we cannot trust reports like this to give us the full facts but I'm afraid that sort of one sided kind of reporting has been going on since man learned to speak.
I think I would have pointed out to Time Warner that the equipment in question was not new and therefore should be depeciated in line with common practice in the industry. (Electronic equipment is very often written off completely by accountants in the first year as a capital expense. It is certainly always depreciated to zero in three years). The insurers' assessment would lend weight to that and I think a Small Claims Court would settle in favour of the person devastated by the tornado.
Of course, one could simply return the bill to Time Warner with the advice that they should take it out of the profits they made from Twister.

Time Warner Cable company SUCKS, and if there is ever a way to get out from under them I will be gone.
They would I can assure you expect you to pay for their cheap remotes that don't work half the time. Instead of people being glad you are alive and sorry that you lost your home they want to add more misery to your life. I was standing by the pay phone yesterday morning, at 6 AM arguing with them they cut me off because my bill was one day past due.
And I suppose they thought she should of had insurance to cover them, did she have home owners insurance or renters insurance, that should cover the loss.

That is just wrong. It's not like she could help it that there was a tornado. What does the cable company think, that she could stop a tornado?
