What do you know about remote access programs for PC? I am going to take over bookkeeping duties for the company I worked for before my kids were born, but this time I will be doing it from home. I am looking into remote access programs for my computer, but I am clueless. Any suggestions on which program works the best? is most affordable? Any advice in general? Do I need to have quickbooks installed on my computer as well, or do I work off thier software? Please share any info you might have.

First thing to do is find if Quickbooks has a remote access option.
You may not need another program, just either a direct connection or internet connection.
If you do it this way you definitely need Quickbooks installed on your pc.
I am not sure how other programs work but GoToMyPC and LogMeIn are the best that I know of and they may connect direct so you don't need to have Quickbooks installed.
Even just finding a way to upload and download the file so you are working on a local file that you can trasfer when you are finished. That way especially you have a back up that you can use to check and correct mistakes rather then work on the only copy that can be messed up. The owner of one place I worked at did that. He did the work at home and just transferred the finished files.

I have tried LogMeIn Hamanchi before and they are really great for remote access. I found out today that they don't have the GoToMyOC anymore but they have LogMeIn FREE for non commercial use. Available for PCs and Macs. Fast and easy remote access to your PC from any computer with an Internet connection. Check this site for more details https://secure.logmein.com/sitemap.asp?t=2
