How long does a sack of potatoes last in your home? Do they last enough to start going soft and growing eyes?
During these months I go through about 20 pounds a month -
during other times of the year I end up ditching 5 pounds a month.
I make a lot of soups during the cold months and use potatoes, as well I use the oven more often and like to throw a few potatoes in (for later) when cooking a meal.

Modestah, there are times a 5lb bag of taters in my house has to be thrown out. We eat a lot of rice and pasta, so unless I am making soups potatoes go to waste. I adore them but I also can't eat them with out the trimmings... LMAO Oh fry me up a pan and I am in pig heaven. Sigh, best to sick with pasta and tomato gravies :)) Or plain wild rice, much kinder on the circulatory system.

I would say a 20 bag would last a couple weeks here in the winter months - there are only 3 of us here now but all 3 of us love fried potatoes so I'll do the biggest pan we have full, stick left overs in the fridge and we just re-heat in the micro wave as wanted.
Depending on what we have on hand I'll add bacon, sausage, onions, or just pepper and garlic. Opps should mention I add pepper and garlic to just about everything :)

Like you, we go through a large sack of potatos each month. We have potatos in some form or fashion very frequently. We have them baked, cubed/broiled, mashed and cut up into soups and stews. We eat about the same amount whether it is summer or winter.

Spuds don't last very long for me because I buy a small bag at a time. Any time I have veges I have potatoes. I love them. I'm making myself eat less of them because I'm trying to lose weight...potato bake is OUT! They are a most versatile vege and it's very easy for me to OD on them. I love chips, roast spud, mashed spud and I love them in stews, curries, pumpkin soup and of course...potato salad. I do one with mint and mayo and one with boiled egg, mayo, seeded mustard and either sour cream or cream. Oh boy, now I'm hungry.

With just two of us, I try to buy potatoes individually, by the pound, since I've thrown out far too many potatoes. When my son was home for a month I used more but just ended up throwing out the last two or three from the bag a couple of days ago. I hate to waste food but just don't seem to get around to using them sometimes before they go bad. I love potatoes, too, so I don't know why I don't make a better effort to use them up.

I use a lot more potatoes in the fall and winter than I do in the summer too. I just bought 10 lbs last Wednesday and had to buy another 5 lbs today.

if we don't eat them all they'll usually last about a month before it gets eyes starting.sometimes less in summer due to the humidity.
my mother used to keep them in the basement to try to extend the time of them, but it really didn't seem to make that much of a difference to me.wasn't that much cooler.

I buy 5 pounds of potatoes every two weeks. If I buy any larger amount then 5 pounds at a time they tend to start getting a little squishy. We eat a lot of potato dishes in our house but I don't always make the dishes from scratch so sometimes the box mixes or instant potatoes get used instead depending on how I feel when I'm cooking that particular meal.

Sometimes I will go through the bad in a week when I make alot of stuff with potatoes then other times they will have all kinds of things growing out of them.
