I'm just curious guys, how many of us here smell the glass before drinking? i do this specially on public restaurants and foodchains specially those that are not disposable even the spoon and fork. c",) i don't like drinking on a glass that smells like it wasn't washed with soap. If so,better drink with the straw.lol!is it just me? i have come to a discussion here in mylot with a warning on the glasses on hotels which are found out to be unclean (not all) but this warned us to be aware on some hotels. And i do agree and thankful for the warning...

I don't drink nor use drinking glasses on public places, since it's pretty obvious that everyone has been using it. We're not sure how safe and clean it is, so I usually go for bottled waters and/or canned/bottled softdrinks. I also don't use any straw, since again, it can be contaminated with bacteria or any germs that came from other people's hands. I've worked on some restaurants and food chains, so I know how things work there. But I do smell the drinking glass I use at home, since I want to know how clean it was. If I smell a strong scent of dishwashing liquids in it, then I'd run to our sink and rinse it again. Same thing goes if it smells quite unusual or dirty, I'd wash it again on our sink.

well if it is clean it should not smell like anything. if you smell soap dont drink from it. i guess i never think about it much because most places use dishwashers . if it is a small place and they do it by hand i guess i have to just look at the glass and see

I don't use the glasses in any hotels and I check them out really good in the restaurants, I especially hate when I find a glass that has a chip on the lip/rim of the glass, I am always afraid of getting cut. Sometimes I will ask for a paper cup like they give you for take out.

Its funny thing that you raised that question. I never really smell the glass when I drink. But I look at the contents before I drink. Just to check if the liquid is clear and if its okay to drink.

I am really annoyed when my family smells the dishes or inspects them before using them. If they don't like the way I do the dishes, then they should do them, which they don't even offer to do. If the glasses in a restaurant are not clean or the water is not good, it's pretty obvious just from looking at it. If I smell soap, I sure don't want to drink from it. Want to freak out the hotel people? Before you leave your room, rewrap all your glasses and put the little sanitary paper ribbon back over the toilet seat.

when i eat in our cafeteria, i don't usually smell the glass when i fill it up with drinks. i think i should inspect the glass before i fill and drink from it. in one occasion, i drank from a glass that has a chocolate inside the glass. imagine how i reacted, i was furious and felt stupid for i did not see that coming. i should have inspected the freaking glass before i filled it up with a drink. i learned from this incident. since then, i started to inspect every glass that i drink from.

hi mycharm! ^__^ i don't have that kind of habit. i think that's being exaggerated. ^__^;; although being careful on the things you use in restaurants and food chains is not being exaggerated. most restaurants and food chains probably have their sanitation certificate so i'm sure the utensils they use are clean. i think what's more important is that we have to be careful on choosing which food establishment we are going to dine in. ^__^

Smell the glass? This is interesting. I do not smell but I survey the glass before I drink. Often, I smell the water instead. At times I am not sure if it is the soapy smell from the glass or the glass. I would not drink from a glass that smelt soapy.

I am very conscious about everything I use when eating out. Yes, I do smell the glass, the plate, the spoon and fork. People might find it OA (overacting) and I understand them. It's really better to be safe than sorry.

I have never ever done that. In fact if I smelled soap, well, I probably would not want to drink from it anyway. Yuk! I have worked in restaurants and know that most anyway do rinse and wash the dishes by hand prior to putting them the the dishwasher with more soap and extremely hot water so they are about as clean as you can get them. I usually do drink with a straw anyway so have never given this subject much thought before.

i am also very particular with the smell of things i use especially in a public place. i often check my utensils if they are really clean and when i am not satisfied i usually ask the crew to kindly replace my things, i do the same with the glass or bowl that i use in a restaurant. its the proper thing actually and there's nothing wrong with that, there are many sever illness nowadays and its only natural that we take several precautions for ourselves.

In public places, I don't usually order food from stores using reusable glasses. I prefer using disposable ones. Even my husband likes using bottled beverages more than drinking on glasses. But at home, I'm the one who's washing the dishes (along with pots and pans) on a regular basis. But even so, I do smell the glasses sometimes. Call me meticulous but I do it even if I personally wash them. I check for the odor of the glasses and if there is soap residue in the glasses. Sometimes, I'm also puzzled why there is an odor. I even become suspicious of the way the dishes and glasses are being washed if ever I don't do the washing myself.
