Since Valentine's Day will soon be upon us, I decided to share this little tid bit of information that I got off of a post card I picked up in Chicago. The St. Valentine's Day Massacre, this most notorious event in Chicago's history is the name given to the shooting of seven people during Prohibition Era conflict in the winter of 1929 between two powerful criminal gangs in Chicago. The South Side Italian gang was led by Al "Scarface" Capone and the North Side Irish/German gang was led by George "Bugs" Moran. On the morning of February 14, St. Valentine's Day, six members of Moran's gang were lined up against the rear inside wall of the garage of the SMC Cartage Company in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago's North Side. They were then mowed down by machine-gun fire, by five members of Al Capone's gang (two of them were dressed as police officers). Capone, himself, had arranged to be on vacation in Florida at the time, providing himself with a perfect alibi. Hope you enjoyed, and now you know!

It's a pretty famous time in mafia/gangster history. If you go to any old Italian Restaurants, in or around the Chicago area, they probably have something about it on their walls or menus.
