Maggie (greatly voiced by Anna Paquin) an aspiring actress living in New York, has her life transformed when lightning strikes and she's altered, into a being that mimics chameleons. Simultaneously, her father's life is being threatened, so she must utilize her powers to salvage his life. If that were not enough, also, she's catapulted into a struggle to save the human race, while attempting to handle high school.
Like most direct-to-video animated features, "Mosaic" holds little innovation and feels abundantly predictable. The story feels formulaic, and lacks special potency. Yet, it does hold enough humor and action portions to hike up the interest level.
Thanks to the protagonist, it does not fail.
Maggie is charming, endearing, and interesting, all because she's remarkably voiced by Paquin. That's the non-typical thing, the lead character being a female. Also, she's not fuzzy brained, rather portrayed as smart and witty.
Plus, we can appreciate the struggle of her handling new powers & dealing with high school endeavors.
The special effects help in that it's cool to watch nifty chameleon transformations, leading to neat-o action sequences, that will keep your watching it from being a waste of time.
Did you find Mosaic to have redeeming qualities?
