I just did a discussion about medications and I did a real mistake in typing it out...in the first line it says .."that if you take medications for anything that you should suddenly ditch them all especially for serious medical conditions..."
http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1407697.aspx
Folks sorry about that..it should read SHOULDN'T...uh big difference in my meaning...
Okay to make this a discussion..how many of you would just love to see some kind of editing abilities here for a poster to do if they see some kind of mistake they did in typing...I often don't catch on my typos until after the darn discussion is posted..do you ever make this mistake as well? Tell me it's not just me. :(

it's not just you, pye. I'd love to have the ability to edit our discussions because of what happened in your case. No matter how careful we are before posting, some things get through that weren't meant to get through.
Hey Crash! Hint, hint :)

And my spellcheck wouldn't have worked either cause it wasn't like I spelled should wrong..that's why it slipped through

Yes I agree it has happened to me too. Come on mylot, we are the ones typing day and night and really can benefit with an "EDIT" button - help us out here.

Have you ever heard of the saying "To error is human"? Well, you're human!! lol Guess what?! So am I!! lol What I do is copy it and put it on word to be sure all the spelling is correct however, it doesn't always work such as in your case here, should is spelled correctly but you meant shouldn't... ah.... that won't come up. Soooo all you can do is correct it when you catch it and you did just that!! So smile! You're on candid camera!! LOL

I do make typos. I post at some sites that have the edit capabiity, and it helps a lot. A sentence that talks about my first job is a lot different than one that talks about my first jog. I know they intend us to use the preview function then edit, but I have had browser difficulties when I do that.

LOL...yes, there is a definite difference between first job and jog..I have problems with the preview button too

I have done this lots of times. I think we should have editing abilities. I know mylot doesn;t want this, because someone could get real insulting and then edit it and say, oops I didn't say that.
So I think that we should have about 15 minutes after the original post to edit any typos we made or add in links we forgot to post.

Yes, this is the only forum that doesn't have edit or delete features. If it hadn't been for the other mylotter who emailed me I wouldn't have known about my mistake. Yeah, I sometimes forget to add a link or a picture to illustrate a discussion

Hi pyewacket,
Don't worry. I knew what you 'meant to say,' as soon as I read that discussion. I 'try' to read everything over, before I post anything, but it can be hard. I do get annoyed with myself, when I let these errors slip through, so yes, I'd love to see the features you've mentioned.

It's not just you.
I even try to proof read and sometimes I still see typos.
I would also like to edit typos. But, as owner of a few forums, I can see the other side of the
editing option.
I do allow editing at my forums for members, but a forum setting of this size, I have to wonder how many members would edit out a lot of discussions after the fact because they didn't like it being out there after it was posted. In maybe like a day or week later?
Editing a word or two is fine..but, editing a whole topic is not..and I do see both sides and I do know some would do exactly that.
I don't have the answers. I wish there was a happy medium.
Maybe someone can write a script that only allows 2 or 3 characters to be edited at a time..just like you cannot copy and paste until you have made 500 post..

Mmmmm..I think some of us wouldn't mind being able to edit out whole discussions though, especially if they started one that was flaming or abusive when they were angry and realized it wasn't proper

I knew what you meant, pye. Really wish there was an edit button so we could correct our posts after we've already posted them. Yahoo answers does...

All the time! If I am going to do a long, discussion like you did I'll often type it up in Word Perfect first, yeah, I'm a word perfect sortta gal.... But even then I wouldn't have caught that kind of error.
On the other hand, I guess most folks have figured out that I don't normally post those kinds of posts. I don't have an "agenda" I am pushing.
I don't object to other people's, I'll often respond to them, but I just am not an "agenda" kindda gal.... Unless you consider I support some programs that have fallen out of favor with the general population, like Word Perfect.
I do push science fiction, if it were a religion I'd be there.... Thank God (or who ever you worship) that L. Ron Hubbard decided to take his religion away from the sf arena. I have met people that met Asimov at cons that use to tell how Hubbard bragged he could invent a religion.

Word Perfect... I remember that! I took about 4 or 5 different courses in it, from DOS to Windows, and then the world decided it was going to use Word instead...
As for L. Ron, yes, he did and then was held captive by it.

No apology is necessary, pyewacket, because we all fall victim to the dreaded typo at one time or another. I even find myself doing it sometimes, lol. I think that enough members have mentioned the need for some type of editing device here on myLot, but, if I remember correctly, Crash suggested that we always preview our response before submitting it. I know it takes a bit longer to do this, but I can't think of any other way for now.

I agree they should have a way to edit a discussion or have a spell checker. I find that I do make mistakes alot when writing something, and wish I could go back and change it.

I totally agree that there should be an edit button for us to use here. I have often posted something and then noticed typos or other various errors in my post after I posted it and wished I could go back and correct it. I always re-read what I type before posting too, but the fact is, sometimes you just don't catch mistakes before you post. Adding edit options that we could use after posting would be a great improvement on the site.
