shopping for footwear

I am so anxious for summer, I can't wait. I have a big concern re: footwear. I have always had a problem buying shoes that are comfortable and last year I found the answer. I bought a cheap pair of clogs. Man those things are comfortable like wearing nothing. I loved them, but you should have seen my feet. My feet almost raw from me scratching. The doctor said it was psoriasis and after much medication nothing worked. Finally it got too cold to wear the clogs and I had to wear my Dr. Scholl shoes and my feet cleared up, took a long time but they did clear up. To tell you how bad it had got I still have scaring on the top of my feet. Has anyone else had this? I'm told they sell them now with lining. If they have them here in Canada I'm going to try them again. They are comfortable.

oh my, so are you alergic to the material those clogs are made out of? would it make a difference I wonder if you were to go with a differnet maker of them...
they are comfortable, but provide no traction (at least many of them do not, I did buy a pair of avon ones on clearance for my daughter and they seem better constructed)
I am glad your rash cleared up finally and hope you find a solution this summer.
the lining is like a warm fuzzy lining for cold weather. it would be awful if it got wet when out and about and your feet sat in the wet cloth.

Oh my goodness Grandma, that sounds painful! I do know that psoriasis tends to flare up in the presence of heat. My son's college roommate had psoriasis on his hands and they were able to get into the one and only air-conditioned dorm due the the flareups he kept having. Once he got out of the heat of the regular dorm, his flairups stopped! I imagine the material that the clogs were made of did not allow your feet enough airflow or didn't absorb sweat or something...and due to the incrased heat, you had psoriasis flareups. I hope you are able to find a pair that doesn't cause you a problem this summer, as it sounds like you really enjoyed the shoes! Many of the nurses were wearing the crocs at our local hospital and they raved about how comfortable they were. Administration eventually banned them and the nurses were so upset.

Painful YES but that was after I scratched it to the point of being raw, because I have never had anything itch like this ever. I have never in my life had anything worse than a mosquito bite as far as itch goes BUT OMG I was busier than a one armed paper hanger with a sever case of crabs. I literally woke myself up to sitting straight up in bed and scratching my feet with both hands. I have known for years I can't wear tender tootsies because those shoes burn my feet and now I know I can't wear these cheap things and that's sad because they really are comfy.

I have a pair of them clogs too, they are so comfortable. Have you tried to wear yours with socks, that might help your skin. I wonder if using some kind of foot powder might also help. Good luck with figuring something out that helps.

Psoriasis!
That dose not seem to equate. Normally if you have this skin disease, you know about it because you grew up with it. There is no medication known to help. Its still not determined if it is an actual skin disease, or if its an internal problem with an external reaction. If your feet cleard up after wearing closed toe shoes, I just dont think it could be psoriasis. I have known a couple people with it, and its never just cleared up or gone away for a while.
What would make more sense to me, is you had an allergic reaction to the shoes. Crazy I know, but maybe they are made out of a material that irritated your skin.
Good luck, maybe they have changed them.

I don't know if you have CVS in Canada but if you do, check out their Okabashi sandals. I bought a pair last year and they are wonderful for your feet. A friend bought a couple of pairs. They are the most comfortable sandals I have ever worn.
I am going to get some of their casual shoes since I am on my feet all day at work. Here is there website: www.okabashi.com.
You will not be disappointed.

CVS is like a Walgreens or Rite Aid. A pharmacy that handles cards, photos, makeup, health and beauty and seasonal items.

I was very tempted to buy a pair of clogs as in your pic. and so many people are wearing them these days, but when you get to my age and need to wear orthotics lol makes wearing them a bit hard. Gone are the days of nice shoes for me and now it is big bucks spent on shoes that I must say are comfortable for my needs but are not the prettiest! Our feet carry us for many miles and it is not until something happens to them that the need to look after them is important to last many more miles. I did try a pair on once and you are right, they did feel like you are not wearing anything on your feet at all.

I am sorry to hear about the problems you had with your feet because of the clogs that you were wearing. Glad to hear that your feet are getting better. I was having problems with my feet for a while and then bought new sneakers from this store called The Walking Company. Ever since, my feet have been fine and have no aches and pains. If you have this store in you area, you may want to check them out. I believe they have clogs as well and ones that will not harm your feet.

Oh I wish we had that store here. It's hard for me to get comfortable shoes. Leather I think is the best. Costs more but in the end I think it's better.

I finally bought a pair of clogs a few months ago. They were really cheap but I loved them. I bought another pair in my size a few days ago at Walmart and they seem too small. They are rubbing the side of my feet where the sling is. I think I got the others at Dollar General so I'm going back there and get the Large ones as they seem to fit better. Sometimes the cheaper things are better, lol.

I have those, I think they call them "Crocs". They are the most comfortable thing I've ever worn on my feet. They are a nice looking shoe to wear too and I have had 4 pairs so far...no problems with psoriasis, thank goodness. I'm not sure about a lining, i get sand in my feet but I love how cool they are. I've worn them to colour co-ordinate my outfits.
It's a good thing they are cheap because I've worn a hole in the bottom of the first 3 pairs....lol.

Oh I know they are so comfortable. Even people who used to put them down saying they were ugly and I have always said they're the most comfortable shoe around. But for some reason I simply can not wear them. You can still see some real ugly scars left on my feet. I went raw and itch, I have never known an itch before like this was.

I know you're not the only one that has said that, but I have a black and a nice blue color ones. Honest they are so so comfortable and I have such crippled toes and I do have issues with comfort, but they are comfortable. I won't wear them again after what I went through, guess I'm allergic to them.

i love flip flops and sandals in the summer, that is pretty much all i wear from may until october when it gets too darn cold...i have seen many people wear the crocs and rave about them, but they seem kind of ugly to me...they do not look terribly comfortable either. someday i may break down and buy a pair though, since i have lately been needing new shoes - i enjoy wearing slippers out, but they don't do too well in the snow or rain, which we get quite our fair abundance of where i live.

I personally like leather sandals with the velcro strap and padded insole. I found some in a mens/boys department one time at Wal-Mart for only about 15.00.

I cannot wear any shoes with stitching, they have to be leather, and enough room because I have bunions and a high arch and they cannot wear the back of my heel so it has to be padded. I did get the Dr. Scholl shoes, but the stitching on top, hurt my toes. I usually buy my shoes from Quark, Footwear, or Naturalizer. I was lucky and got a pair of sandals and walking shoes from Value Village. I still have the sandals, but the walking shoes is almost ready for the trash heat.
I guess I will have to wear my husband's exercise shoes. He bought them too small so they should fit me.

I have problems with my feet so NO shoes are very comfortable for me except for sandals, so I wear them as long as I can get away with it in the fall and put them back on as early as possible in the spring. My family and friends laugh at me about it but I can't help it. I also HATE being cold, especially having cold feet, so as you can see this is a bit of a conflict with me. It used to be that the coldness part would win out but as the pain in my feet has increased as I get older, not it goes the other way.

I sympathize with you, Grandmaof2, because I have a skin condition called eczema. My feet break out on the soles(mostly), and I have to constantly be on guard against infection. Even with medication breakouts are very stubborn and hard to clear up. I think mine does much better during the warm weather than in cold weather. Unfortunately, this winter I have been plagued by breakouts on the fingers of my right hand. I love the clogs, too, and have several pairs of them.

I can tell from the picture that these shoes are "Crocs." Crocs were invented in Canada and later sold to an American firm. The Chinese copied them, with cheaper plastic, and now sell them all over the world.I've heard that some people are allergic to the Chinese version. I have a pair of the original Crocs, and I enjoy wearing them very much. A new winter version has recently been introduced. This version is lined, and has fur around the top.

I love new shoes but I think those things you are talking about from your picture are crocs. I think thats what they are called. They look cute on kids but I don't think they would be good for me. I like sandles that are like platform so I don't look so short makes my legs look leaner and longer. I'm thinking maybe you are allergic to whatever the crocs are made of or maybe it caused athletes foot that can be sooooo itchy. I had that once when I was young it was horrible.

oh i go barefoot so much. I hate shoes. I have a really really cheap pair of sandals in my car that i put on if needed. they are comfortable but not as comfortable as my own feet. It is a bad lifestyle, i'll agree. come winter when there is no choise but to wear shoes, i do have trouble finding shoes that are comfortable. moccosins are great.
