I did a terrible thing

I really messed up this time, and am not even sure how I did it... a bit over an hour ago I was walking getting ready to turn in for the night - and all of a sudden I hear a crunch and went down to the floor in horrid pain... I did not twist my ankle - it was my achilies tendon that crunched - then my foot started feeling like it was on fire - and pain was shooting up to my knee. my leg is still numb from my toes to my knee., I can not flex my foot - can not walk on it. It burns, it throbs and is very tight above the heel.. I can now just start to move my toes with concentration. At first I thought I broke my foot but I guess now that they initial hysteria is over I probably did not. I did something to that tendon though!

Modestah, I hate to sound bossy, but you really need to go have an MRI or something. You might have a small tear or something in your achilles tendon. To not immobilize it correctly could lead to a total tear which would require surgery! You should also elevate and ice the area around teh tendon.

ack! I put the ice on - gently, owe to put any pressure in that area and kept elevated, by pillows under the calf and not the heel. I sent my husband out for epsom salts and intend to soak. I can put pressure on my foot now, but can not lift the heel off of the floor when walking.

Ouch! I hope you will be okay. My husband ripped his Achilles tendon several years ago. So he knows about the pain it can bring. I hope what you did wasn't as serious as that as he was in a cast for a year. Try to take it easy and please be careful!

Ouch Modestah, sometimes hurting a tendon is worse than a break, If you can not walk on it soon I would suggest you go see your doctor. It might need to be immobilized to heal. Good Luck Sugar. Man I know that hurts.

Oh goodness dear I hope you are ok, I know it would put me into a major panic. I've never had this happen but a few months ago I missed a step and feel down 3 stairs - banged myself up pretty good. Then turned around last month and slipped on ice in the driveway - think I need to either stop walking or slow down :) I hope you feel better now as this was several hours ago.

My mother stepped out of bed one morning and twisted her foot and broke her ankle! If it's not better in a while you'd better go see if you really did break anything. Have you put ice on it? How about stretching it? Hope you feel better soon!
