Here is a shot I took at 8:55 p.m. Wed 2-20-08 of the total lunar eclipse. I used my Canon PowerShot A540 digital camera set at night settings with no flash. I set it on a box to keep it still as my hands shake too much with self timer set as well. This was about 5 minutes prior to full coverage of the earths shadow on the moon. Did you watch the eclipse at all? Did you take any photos? Share them here if you did please. I'd love to hear opinions on this shot as well. Thanks in advance. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Since I'm none too keen about digital cameras...is it really necessary to have a digital camera set for night settings??..reason I ask,...one of the times I did take moon shots myself with my trusty 30 year old Nikkormat EL-W film camera with 500mm mirror lens I was nearly bowled over...why? I was getting meter readings from the moon!

No it's not needed but the setting for fireworks is best as it is basically for a lighted sky shot in the dark with the very slow shutter speed. So that's why I used this setting. Some of the other shots were taken on normal (auto) settings with and without the flash. I am not a pro so I am experimenting a lot with various settings, shutter speeds, amount of flash and color swapping etc. I'll be waiting for those moon shots of yours. Hurry up now. HAHAHA!!! I didn't watch it, I am glad you posted a few pictures of it. I stayed in the house, it was so cold and windy outside. I know wa wa wa wa, you know what cold is. Well it was down around zero in my neck of the woods, it was cold, we had the wind too so that made it colder.

I was going to watch, but I was so busy that I forgot about it, and fell asleep exhausted anyway. Nice picture you got. I tried to take night pictures before, but they never came out very good. Guess I'll have to do a little research on cameras with night settings if I want a good picture.

lunar eclipse - one of the shots I got
It was beautiful to watch, I also got some pics of it using my NikonD40, no tripod, I did use flash in some of them, and used a few different settings to get different effects. That is a good shot of it. You can check out one of my other shots under another discussion about the lunar eclipse that I responded too.

It is a good thing that you started the this discussion since I was not able to see it. I am not sure though if it was also visible in our side of the world.
