I need help entering HTML code in profile

It may just be me but I am still having trouble entering HTML code in my profile. I go in edit profile, click on html sortie, past html code for a banner and hit save. It says that it will not complete until you remove or get out of edit. It didn't work, the code disappeared from the box. I tried a few times and I even tried it and logged out and logged back in. Nothing. It sounds so easy but I just can't get it to go in. Please help me...sob sob whine whine!
