Okay it's been a great weekend weather wise here in Minnesota. I finally got to get up on my roof to clear the ice from around my furnace chimney. It's been buiding up from the sub-zero temps we've had causing a few minor problems to be discussed in another discussion. But there was ice a few inches thick around the chinmey causing it to seep into my attic. I also cleared a lot of snow using a driveway broom to do this process. Now I've a huge ice dam left that is about 6 inches thick that I can't remove. But it isn't causing any problems that I can see. It's not leaking into my dining room etc. I am looking for sales on roof rakes to get one for this purpose next winter etc. I've fallen off my roof 2 times in the past 2 years and luckily there was enough snow to break my fall. Hahaha!! Do you clear the snow and or ice from your roof when it warms up? Do you use a roof rake or climp up using a broom? Do you just leave it and let nature takes it's course?

It's rare to find any kids around here that shovel walks anymore. Either too lazy or way too costly.

No, we do not need to this. I think we do not have enough insulation to let it build up on the roof. It melts off pretty well. Our house is so tall and has so many peaks it would be dangerous to climb up there. I do not even know what a roof rake is, why don't you post a picture?

They are made of light weight aluminum. They come with a few extension poles to be able to reach high up on the roof. They are used like a broom raking the snow from the roof onto the ground. This prevents a heavy buildup of snow and or ice which can create a collapse or ice damage to roofs and the interiors of a home also.

We have had quite a time here with the weather. 3 weeks three storms. The ice started to melt yesterday. So i woke up this morning. And it was snowing.I don't get up on the roof. But my hubby does. Thankfully he hasn't fallen. And it's only to clean the leaves out of the gutters. He leaves nature take its course with the snow.

I have fallen off my roof cleqairng the snow from it before. But there was lots of snow on the ground and it was not that far of a fall so I did not get hurt. But this year I waited till most the snow was gone before climbing up there. HAHAHA!! I clicmb the ladder with the garden hose to clear the leaves from my gutters in the spring, summer, and fall.
