I;m a little confused about the doubles serving rules in Badminton. I know how they start and how the serve passes etc, but I cant figure out which half of the court to serve from and what decides it. This is primarily because of 2 players in our group who have different views. Can you tell me the exact rule please!

Now under the new badminton rules, it will be service over when you lose a rally. If you start the serve and you win the rally, then you swap sides with your doubles partner and serve again. Whenever you get a service, the person on the right always serves. The only exception when a player serves on the left is when a player serves on the right, wins the rally, change sides with the partner and serves again. I hope you understand what I'm saying. The old rules is a bit harder to explain.

Thats what one of them said. Till now we have been playing like this. If your score is an odd number (1,3,5,7....) you serve from the left and if it is even (0,2,4,6.... ) you serve from the right. We found that simple!

From your reply, it seems that the way you are playing is the old system. That's not wrong, but now there's a new system to it. This is because there is a change in the system; last time you had to win while you are having the service to win points, now as long as you win a rally you get (back) the service and win one point at the same time. I guess if you're playing for fun, any of the two systems can be used, depending on which is more simple and suitable for you. Have fun playing badminton! =)
