How Do You Prepare for Presentations?

I have 2 presentations a week from today... how would you prepare?
I tend to not prepare. I feel silly speaking in front of a mirror and I never want to ask my friends listen to my boring speeches. I just make sure I know my stuff and go up in front of the class and wing it. I'm bad at reading so I just try to make sure that I won't be reading off cards and I generally don't even bring cards up because I know they'll just mess me up.
These are both science type presentations with one being a group presentation where my part is probably only 5 to 10 minutes long. The big presentation is the one that is 20 minutes long on crazy stuff I still can't even find enough research on.

I know it sounds a little strange and it is but have you tried video taping and watching yourself? I did these a couple of times when I had speech class (like public speaking) in high school. I don't know if you've got a video camera but I'm betting your camera had a video mode.
Good luck with them!!

I do have a video camera (my point and shoot wouldn't go for 20 minutes or have good enough sound). We used to do that in public speaking too, but it was more because the professor was drunk or hungover and passed out in the back of the class so she had to watch us later. I could imagine myself without actually watching it over and over though I think. I don't have to actually do anything up there (just talk, no movements or any kind of action) that I need to work on. I just need to know the subject well enough to not have to read anything I guess.
I could pretend I'm making a YouTube video though I suppose. :)

hi there,
well we have the same style. i dont really practice infront of the mirror because i feel silly.
what matters is that i know everything i need to say, everything in my part so that i can explain it clear and well for every one to understand.
But it'll be hard for you to remember all the facts since that's a science type of presentation so i suggest you put the important facts in bullet form in a card which you hold on to for the whole presentation

There are so many little important things that if I don't memorize them, I'll have like 25 cards. :) I'm a horrible reader, so I try to go for memory if I can. I might end up going up there with a couple cards though since I didn't get a start on this early enough.
