Almost nothing Misha Defonseca wrote about herself or her horrific childhood during the Holocaust was true. She didn't live with a pack of wolves to escape the Nazis. She didn't trek 1,900 miles across Europe in search of her deported parents, nor kill a German soldier in self-defense. She's not even Jewish. Would something like this make you angry? Or would you just look at it as a work of fiction?

I have not read this book and this is the first time I have even heard mention of it, but if I had read it as an autobiography, it would anger me to find out that this person illicited public sentiment for naught. It would have been different if she had documented it as being true, but had happened to others and not herself, but to blatantly lie in this manner is despicable.

That is how I would feel too. Like I had been duped.

I think first of all if it's going to be a work of fiction then she should tell ppl that it's a work of fiction. I would imagine that ppl that actually had to suffer through the Holocaust are offended by something like this. My first marriage was very abusive. It would be like someone telling me that they lived through a very abusive relationship too so they know how I feel. If they didn't they have no clue the depths of pain you experience or the scars it leaves. It's like making a mockery out of it...at least that's how it seems to me. Of course it would make me angry, she has feigned to belong to a horribly persecuted group to make money. She disrespects the suffering of these people by pretending to be one of them -- pretending to reap sympathy and monetary gain. How many people bought the book partially out of sympathy for what she suffered? Such things can be written as historical fiction. If written and marked that, then ok. Otherwise, major bad mojo for her.
