First of all, I have to admit that I don't keep up with all the latest products, in spite of what some of you might think. The other day while shopping for produce at a local grocery store I was drawn to some particularly beautiful apples. Not recognizing the variety, I looked for the label. When I saw the word "Grapples," I thought there must be a misprint. This led to my getting out my glasses so that I could read the information better. I discovered that it was not a misprint, but these were in fact Grapples -a fruit that tastes like a grape but looks like an apple. My first thought was, "Whoever thought up this idea?" I'm half sorry now that I didn't go ahead and buy them, but I chose a variety of apple that I was more accustomed to. This leads to my question: How many of you know about this new fruit? And, if you've tried them, how good are they?

I have seen them around here for a couple of years and what they are is a special apple they soak in this grape flavored stuff to give it a different flavor..I haven't tried them, they are too expensive, 5.00 for 4 apples, but I heard they were good, so one day if I do have extra money, I may try one..:)

They very well may taste good, carmelanirel, but I would never shell out that kind of money when I could just buy one of each kind of fruit, lol.

apples - grapple apple
There is nothing but flavor being infused into the Fuji apple. They are not genetically altered in any way, but I am wondering about the infusion process. It is patent pending, but I would like to be 100% sure about its safety.

No, weemam, they have a beautiful appearance, but I can't speak for the taste of them.

I've seen them, but not tried them. What's the point, anyway? I like apples and I like grapes, so why change either one? Sometimes what they do to our food is kind of silly.

Actually, I have heard of these and purchased them for my kids. However, neither of them cared for it and most of them I threw away. I think it is best if an apple is just an apple. There are plenty of varieties of them so let's not change them by adding other fruits.

I agree, carolscash. There are so many varieties of apples that I don't know why they should want to improve on them. If a person wants grapes, they should just buy grapes, lol.

Grapples eh! Well I have never come across them before! Don't like the sound of them to be honest, mind you I don't like grapes, I think when it comes to food I stick to what I like and know best, I am not very courageous when it comes to trying something new, how weird eh! Grapple indeed, I wonder what they'll think of next, a tomapple? a grapebanana or a pinegranate LOL. Lots of variations!

Yes, wolfie, it seems that they never tire of experimenting to come up with new things, but I am a lot like you in that I'm not very adventurous when it comes to the foods I choose to eat, lol.

I have heard of Grapple drinks. As best I can remember, our kids use to drink them when they were younger so am thinking they've been in the stores for awhile. I've never tried the drink so can't give you any feedback on the taste. Sounds like it would be good though and I would try it. I've never heard of a fruit itself that is a grapple. Sounds very interesting.

I bought some on a reduced bin once. They are good, sweet, but not worth the extreme extra price they cost here. I think my favorite apple at this time is the Gala. I have used the term "grapple" for grape/apple juice for about thirty years. Each of those juices, by themselves, caused negative experiences in my children. One cause diarrhea, the other constipated. Mixed together we were fine. I also would blend in cranberry juice for cran grapple. When my son was in elementary they were encouraging healthy birthday treats, not koolaids. We used crangrapple a lot for a red holiday drink.

That's very interesting, GG. I guess I should get out shopping a bit more. You are certainly right in that juices are much better for children than Kool-aid.
