Avon Calling!

Avon is so famous but how many of you have actually been an Avon representive. I was speaking to my sister and she was saying how she needed a little part time job so I was looking at Avon for her and I see that in the UK they pay 25% commission and I have been thinking, that ain't that bad at all. I suppose though it all depends on what customers you can get and if you will spend it all back on Avon products which I bet alot of people do.

I was an avon rep. and it really isn't bad at all. It gave me some extra cash on the side. I am allergic to all their makeup and perfumes and so was not real tempted to spend the profits on anything other than maybe gifts. I didn't go knocking on doors but I did go around my neighborhood and drop off books in mail slots to let them know who I was and how to reach me. I also let all my family and friends know. It was a job that I could do and still do my full time job. It was not very time consuming.

You are one of the only people to say something positive. I have already talked my sister out of it cos she is still quite young and it sounded like a lot of responsibility and hard work judging by what people have said. Thanks for the response anyways.

Well she is still in full time education and lives at home with her parents so it was really just some pocket money that she was after. She is almost 17 though and I think this is just a little bit young to possibly get herself into some hassles.

i certainly would not reccomend it for making a living. In order to do that I do think it would be much more involved and maybe not worth the time. For a supplemental income...it was wonderful.

I haven't sold Avon but I do know of a few people who have. My son's ex-girlfriend used to sell it and she is the one I used to buy it from. She never charged me the retail price, she charged me her price so she never made any money off of me. But for everyone else she charged them retail and she did not bad with it. Her orders were around $800 a month so she was profitting around $200 a month. At the beginning of her working for them, she would spend her profits on products but after awhile she didn't and kept the money instead. But at Christmas time she would spend her profits in Avon to buy gifts. As far as I know, she is still selling it. I also knew a woman that was a manager for Avon and she was on a salary. She did the recruiting and training of the new girls, in the Calgary area. Her house was full of Avon stuff.

Och how I miss Calgary. I wish I was back in Canada. Well she certainly sounds like she was doing well out of her Avon. It would have been good though if I had got the sucess stories first as my sister has now made up her mind. I think I will have to start thinking about doing it. Lol.

I actually work in the Avon warehouse here in Georgia. There are a lot of reps who are making some big money, but like someone mentioned in an earlier post, you need to sell a fair amount to make some good coin. The items are all pretty low ticket.

I am really surprised at the negative comments on here. I live in a town of 200 people and they have had an AVON rep here for years. So the older ladies already have their rep here but I still do well as an AVON representative. I don't work it full time but have women in my area that do and I have a single mom that it is her only income and she is doing great with AVON. If your sister is younger I would tell her to go for it cause along with AVON comes Marks. My daughter takes the book to high school with her and her friends go nuts over it. Their mom's love it because it saves them time running to the city with their daughters to get the items their daughter's love. For me I put books in a school teachers lounge and get orders from them every time. I love selling AVON cause it is well known and people love it. I even have men that order from me. Believe me if I can make money in a town of 200 with 2 representatives in it then anyone can. I would even be willing to give your sister ideas and help her. She would have a district manager in her area that will help her but I would help her too if she wants to do it.

To be honest I have told here everything that people had already said here and now she said she definately doesn't want to do it. She is still in school so I think it may be too much responsibility for her. It is good though that you are doing well with it and I was starting to wonder how Avon can be so well known but rubbish to do representing of. I suppose different people have diffent lives and different skills. Well done though on how great you are doing. I like hearing sucess stories.

I was a avon representive and it was a HUGE mistake. It cost me money and ended up getting me in debt. You are also up against alot of other women who sell it as well and alot of them having been doing it for years and therefore have loads of customers therefore making it hard for you to get customers. Then you have people who don't want to pay and end up getting you in trouble so yeh it isn't a wonderful job. I was fooled and wish that I would never have done it.

With what everyone is saying I think it is a really bad idea if she does it. She is only young and just looking for something to give her a bit of extra cash.

i tried similar thing it wasn`t Avon, but it was an Oriflame, which is just different cosmetics. I think it is hard job, and it depends a lot on the customers you can get, but once you start with your circle of friends and they spread it out it can do. But you do have to sell a lot to make some good money, thats why it didn`t work for me, as I was working full time at the same time and just didn`t have time for it anymore. Good luck to your sister then.

I have never been a rep. myself but a lady that works in my office she sold it and just recentlly quit like a week ago she said that it was way to much stress for her and she didnt make enough so i guess it just depend on how much you sell and all

I sold Avon once. I never made much money from it and so I finally gave it up. I also sold Home and Garden Party for awhile but I never made much from it either. I guess I am not a good sales person. I hope that your sister does well if she signs up to sell.

Being an Avon Rep or a Mary Kay Rep has always been on my thoughts. But the thing is I am not really sure if I could really find the customers to sell. I think it would be fun for me as a side business because I just love skin care and beauty stuff so much, but I might not consider it as a full-time job! Some pocket money while selling my favorite products would definitely be fun.

I have been in the business since childhood. My mom is a nurse and sells part time but left her career to do selling full time. At first, she was the jack of all trades but having realized that earnings comes in many forms and only the many they are from the little she gets from everything so she decided to stay with one, that is Avon. She started as a representative in 1988. She became a full privileged manager, no called sales leader, 1995. Today, I am with the business too and a sales leader like my mom. Hard work and good strategy works. My mom's always tell me not to spend more than what I earned. That made her stay in the business.
