I have not been into this profession, but my friends are. In Bangalore city, there are several companies which are engaged in medical transcription work, on contract with several foreign agencies. Any job in the process of learning look difficult. If one takes interest and if one has enthusiasm and one applies the mind, everything becomes easy. I was told there are several agencies which give the MT job to women to do at home and send the emails.

I am not in his field, but after reading the requirements I don't know if I would be able to make it if I wanted to since I am not a good speller and it says you have to have average to above average in spelling, verbal communications and memory skills..My memory is shot I forget things so easily maybe because my brain isn't challenged enough I don't know. But here is a little something I found out. A medical transcriptionist is constantly challenged to learn in a very exciting occupation with interesting, ever-changing subject matter. There are always new medications and new procedures, previously unstudied specialties to learn, and new doctor-specific phraseology, accents and ESL to master. * Knowledge of basic to advanced medical terminology is essential. * Average to above-average verbal communication and memory skills. * Ability to sort, check, count, and verify numbers with accuracy. * Demonstrated skill in the use and operation of basic office equipment/computer. * Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. * Records maintenance skills or ability. * Average to above-average typing skills. * Knowledge and experience transcribing (from training or real report work) in the Basic Four work types. * Knowledge of and proper application of grammar. * Knowledge of and use of correct punctuation and capitalization rules. * Demonstrated MT proficiencies in multiple report types and multiple specialties. [edit] Duties and responsibilities * Accurately transcribes the patient-identifying information such as name and Medical Record or Social Security Number. * Transcribes accurately, utilizing correct punctuation, grammar and spelling, and edits for inconsistencies. * Maintains/consults references for medical procedures and terminology. * Keeps a transcription log. * Foreign MTs may sort, copy, prepare, assemble, and file records and charts (though in the United States (US) the filing of charts and records are most often assigned to Medical Records Techs in Hospitals or Secretaries in Doctor offices). * Distributes transcribed reports and collects dictation tapes. * Follows up on physicians' missing and/or late dictation, returns printed or electronic report in a timely fashion (in US Hospital, MT Supervisor performs). * Performs quality assurance check. * May maintain disk and disk backup system (in US Hospital, MT Supervisor performs). * May order supplies and report equipment operational problems (In US, this task is most often done by Unit Secretaries, Office Secretaries, or Tech Support personnel). * May collect, tabulate, and generate reports on statistical data, as appropriate (in US, generally performed by MT Supervisor). * May take minutes of transcription department meetings (seldom). * Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned (seldom). You also have to have 1 to 3 years experience. But I wish you lots of lot and hope that you succeed and I hope that you will continue to like it. Best wishes and best of luck.

My Mom used to do this...well, she did part of it and I did part of it. It isn't hard the only hard parts is if you get a foreign doctor and they are hard to understand. The other is spelling the words they use right. All in all it isn't bad and if you can get the work...give it a try, you might like it. !!HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!! **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I am currently taking a medical transcription class and I have found enjoyable. There is a lot of memory work to learn medical terms and definitions I am not familiar with but I find if I follow the learning procedures they give me that I am not having any trouble learning it. They tell me I will not be graded so much on whether I know what all the medical terms mean as to whether I can correctly spell them and transcribe them. Of course it helps to learn all the meanings you can because the accuracy of your transcribing skills can be greatly influenced by how skilled you are with determining the context word usage when you transcribe the medical records. The school issuing my course if the US Career Institute.
