abuse of power

Ok so this is somewhat of a rant, so please bear with me. It seems lately that no matter where you are be it on-line or in a work enviorment, those in power sometimes seem to let it go to their heads. I've noticed that even on here, unlike many other on-line fourm type sites this one has "secret" moderators, because appernetly their deeds aren't always honest and for that reason they stay in the shadows. What gets me is their absolute abuse of power, with random deletions of discussions, banning of members and the just blatent disreguard for freedom of expression and opinions. Now I understand how hard it is to moderate discussion sites and chat rooms because I do so myself. I actually moderate a few of them. Unlike the admin/moderators here I have enough respect for the users of my site to inform them when they are doing something that is in violation of the sites guidlines or when someone makes a complaint about them. I also give them feedback as to what they can do to improve their experince and fix the problem. See thats the point of being a MODERATOR... you mediate between those on your site to ensure everyone has an enjoyable experince. You also try and keep from hendering freedom of speech and expression. Because no two people are alike and not everyone is going to agree on a subject. As adults however, you'd think that if someone didn't agree with what was being said or was offended by the subject matter they'd avoid it. Sadly I've found that that isn't the case here, it seems that even people who are no longer "members" of this site still feel the need to cause issues with people who are. Why anyone who claims to be an adult would do such childish acts is beyond me but appernetly their that bored with life. Its even sadder when those who took a position to respect the integrity of this site do the exact oppisite when they stoop to the same childish behavior. Instead of protecting the users here they themselves violate their own "rules" in order to benifit them and their twisted view of justice. Such abuse of power to me is extremely unsat, and the fact that its allowed to go on is so very sad. If we can't rely on those set out to protect this site to do a proper job, then really whats the point of even having them?

Certainly everyone who has been here awhile and has paid attention agrees with you. Puzzeling to me is that this being 'passive aggressive' by the 'secret moderators' has to hurt the profitablility of myLot. Why are the owners allowing this to happen? Don't they want to make money?

I too agree with what you say. Unfortunately the abuse of power is all too common. I think it's human nature to become overwhelmed with power to the point where we lose sight of the original goal. Here is a blog post I've read a while back that touches on the similar subject: http://allanas-axioms.blogspot.com/2007/03/when-in-power-beware-of-trust-and.html

It does seem that punishing the victim is just that - the abuse of power. It's nothing more than a way to not just run a site or a club into the ground, but six feet under the ground. Also, moderators, admins, site staff, etc. should be revealed & not kept secret. That, to me, is nothing more than signs that those extra buttons by those who have them will abuse them. Instead of just banning or suspending two people in a fight, moderators are supposed to try to help the warring factions in somehow, at least coming to peaceful terms, if not turn enemies into friends. It is not easy, but not impossible either. By just merely spending/banning the warring factions is just saying "I cannot be bothered," is just laziness. Furthermore, friendships & whatever hatreds you might have also needs to go out the nearby window. If these duties cannot be carried out by a moderator/admin, that someone is completely not qualified. Speaking of injustice, do the right thing & bring back SNDCAIN.

I couldn't have said it better.. when it comes time to moderate or run anything, any type of animosity or illgivings you have toward anyone need to be put aside and a professional appearance needs to be in its place. Sadly we see that happens few and far between on here and I think that is a huge problem. If people can't put personal feelings aside and make a rational decision on things then they need not have the power that was given to them.

I do not think it is a good idea to have so much secrecy on this site. If I did something wrong I would like to know what it was so I could avoid makng the same mistake again.

Rodney850 the admin does eventually respond but I usually send the same message to them at least three of four time before they get aggravated and then respond. I have even had a deleted discussion reinstated after I rebutted in detail why it should nor have been deleted.

I agree totally! I had a post removed last week and honestly, I have no idea why! I immediately sent a query to MyLot but so far they are in silent mode. Do the powers that be ever answer anyone? Has anyone here ever recieved an answer from the Admin?
