In the ongoing Quebec language debate... Do away with St. Patrick celebrations?

The French language police and other French language advocates want to interfere in the St. Patrick's Day parade in Montreal because it is an "English" event. Once again, this group, which I refer to as an EXTREMIST group, is trying to infiltrate and annihilate any culture that is not theirs. I know I am not the only one who thinks this is unfair and ridiculous. They are trying to wipe out two birds with one stone here, as far as I can say. Not only are the St. Pat celebrations an English event but they are of course from the Irish culture. I have been raised through my whole life to be tolerant of other peoples. It seems to me this is so primitive and definitely not complimentary to the human race nor to the French people in Quebec. What do you think?

IMO that is simply a form of racism. Trying to wipe out any trace of an other culture is nothing but a racist and bigoted act.

Hmm, traces of Hitler. I know though that the English people are not totally faultless either. I am ashamed of how bigoted my husband is toward the French. We are certainly an ignorant species, us humans.

I think the french people in Quebec are being way too exagerrated with their "speak french" campains. It is annoying and personally, makes me want to speak english more, even though i am from a francophone background. I am almost ashamed to say it! And St-Patrick's is Irish, why freak out about it?

That's my point, too, about the St. Pat's thing being Irish. The problem I suppose is that the Irish use the English language. Anyway, as you say, it's way too out of proportion, culturally. I'm sorry you are not proud of your culture, but in a way I can understand why. It would be like Caucasians being proud of Archie Bunker.
