we all know that people still drink and drive no matter how many warnings they received,
There was a case here in quebec where a man was taken to court 12 times for dui
the 13th time was because he killed somebody while under the influence.
If you were somewhere, and somebody wanted to get into his car drunk, would you take his keys off him to stop him, if not what would you do?

Hi Rose,
I don't think I will live to see the day when drunk drivers will finally heed to all the warnings about the dangers they are courting.
For sure, I would discourage anyone to avoid driving while under the influence. I have a friend who always take a cab instead of driving.
I really can't say if I can be able to stop the others from driving. There are many kind of drunker out there. Some will remain cool as a cucumber while the other will start showing their violent sides.
I had blogged about drunk driving last Christmas. You might like to check it out. http://charmspassion.blogspot.com/2007/12/this-christmas-if-you-drinkdont-drive.html

If he wouldn't hand over the keys I would phone and report him I can not wait until they come up with a car that will not start until the drivers prove they are sober. I know you can off dealer but this type of apparatus but every car in the world need to come with this sort of kill switch. How many people have to be sacrificed to drunk drivers that only get a slap on the wrist, and sent to treatment. I have lost an Aunt to a drunk driver that told police he was too drunk to walk so he had to drive, she was 18 and a new mother. he was fined $600. and a few years later he did it again, and no mention of his previous history was admitted into court,Why do the criminals get all the protection and the victims all the pain?

12 times? Wow!
Where I live if you get caught more then 3 times you pull some jail time. Three striles your out. It is a shame so many people have to die each year because of someselses stupidity to think they can drive home after a night of drinking.I think if they are going to be drinking any they should walk to the bar or call a cab, to and from the bar. Or have a buddy pick them up.I think all keys should be tooken like they do with valet parking and that they don't get their keys back until they take a breathlizer test if they had to much then then they take a cab or call someone to pick them up. It just makes sense. I would definately take the keys before the drinking starts and I wouldn't get in a car with someone whom has been drinking even if it was just a few, because just a few is enough to impair judgement enough to get me killed if they are to slow to respond to something while driving under the influence. I would call a cab for them or I would be the driver because I only drink on rare occasions and I would make sure not to drink if I was going to be driving home.

I would definitely take the keys and hide them from that person. they have no business out on the road behind the wheel of a car or any motor vehicle. The people that keep disobeying the law, need their license revoked and car taken from them. They are taking innocent lives and they will go right back out and do it again if they are given the chance to. If I could not get the keys from them, I would have to call the law and report them and hope they will get pulled over before hurting someone or themselves.

No I would not try to take away his keys, if after all those DUI's he still doesn't care enough to stop driving drunk I would call the police to have him arrested. He does not even deserve to have his license - why does he still have a license to drive after all these DUI's or is he driving without one - another offense. We are not back in the 70's anymore, everyone knows NOT to drink and drive and the celebrities get me angry the most because they can all afford a taxi or a chauffeur. When there is a "Red Carpet" event like the Grammy's every one of those celebrities pull up in a chauffeur driven limo, have you ever seen one of them drive themselves to these events? NO, because they want to show off with their limos (pull up in style) but they don't use a driver when they are cockeyed drunk.

I've never had a drinking problem but I have had one or two too many more than just once, however this is something I simply do not fool around with. I'll ask for your keys and offer to call a cab, but I'm not going to beg and carry on. When I can see you're going to drive come hell or high water that's when I call the police. Plain and simple. There's too many innocent people out there and no body has the right to drink and drive it's that simple in my world.

My husband use to have parties when we were younger. I always collected the keys before they were allowed a drink. That way they knew they won't going anywhere later. Saves the fight later for the keys.
But there has been times we're at a bar and a friend insist on driving. If they refused to give me their keys. I'd go to the owner and tell them this persons plan to drive. That way if there is a problem later. I can say I did what I could to help. Short of calling the police myself.
