My two year old son bites his nails when he's lying in bed. He doesn't do it during the day while he's awake. I don't remember my other two doing that. It really bothers me that he bites his nails. Does anyone have any ideas as to why he might do this? or any ideas on how to make him stop? thank you.

there is actually something made to put on their fingers that makes them not want to bite them. you could try that. my second son bites his nails all the time and he bites them so far down that he actually makes them bleed at times, but his is a nervous habit and i have yet to be able to break him of it. good luck, keep us posted, and God bless

Thank you for responding. It is a bad habit to get into. I'll look into what they can put on the fingers for that. Thank you again.

some of us have so many mannerisms that we actually don't notice we those mannerisms. for a start you can ask your son if he is aware that he is bitting his nails. if he says no then tell him that he's doing it. then have agreement that if you caught him nail bitting again then you will wake him up. we can assume that nail bitting for your son brings some pleasure or comfort. i hope i am of help to you. keep posted..

He's 2, I don't think he would understand what i'm saying. He does it before he falls asleep, not during. Maybe it is for comfort, but its a bad habit to start. thank you for responding.

not sure this works on young children, but a new device at nailbitestopper.com has a mouthpiece that "prevents" the bite.
