Has your home ever been broken into and robbed? Has your property ever been defaced and vandalized by miscreants?

burgled again - This from the last time my house was robbed.
My home has been broken into, ransacked and burglarized several times. I live out in the country, and there are a lot of young kids out here who have nothing better to do, it seems. The police always say they are going to catch whoever did it, but we never hear from them. Once, the kids got into my house and I came home while they were still in the house. They ran out the back door. I don't think they had a chance to steal anything, but all the drawers and cupboards had been ransacked. They had been on a spree that day, and robbed another house down the road. The kids were caught because one of them was wearing a very recognizable gold chain that had been stolen from the other house. I don't think they got in trouble for anything they did to my house, at least I didn't hear anything about it. The picture here shows what they did to my bedroom. They dumped every drawer, and went through the closets. They stole jewelry, tv's and musical equipment. I had a plastic baggie full of gold jewelry that I was selling for a friend on ebay, and it was on top of the dresser. Luckily they missed that.

karen, that is just awful! I can not imagine what a blow that must be to you every time it happens. Do you now have security cams up?

It is sickening to discover that someone has been through all of my things. I will probably never know exactly what is missing, I just have to look around and guess. We do have a camera hidden that we could turn on but it's kind of awkward to use, and we've pretty much forgotten that we have it. I would love to get a real burglar alarm system some day.

I have not been robbed...but been a victim of vandalism. We had an older gentleman (I only say gentleman because I can't say azz) that lived down the street. He thought my son had done something to his house...well my son was not even in town! He was at boy scout camp. The guy slashed my tires not once....not twice.....but three nights in a row! And it cost me alot of money to replace them. He did all four. The police never did prove it was him....but had strong suspicions. I never get reimbersed for my tires either but my insurance covered part of them and it was hell not having a car to use....it was also very scary to know he was lurking around my house in the dark!

oh how creepy that must be for you! I hope he is ashamed for his juvenile form of vengeance. Did the insurance company buy that it happened three nights in a row?

Yes...because there was a police report and reciepts for the new tires each day...what a pain in the rear!

Yes, as I think back on it, it was a learning experience for my whole family and cost me several thousand dollars to boot. There was nothing this person did to earn our trust and it showed in the end why that was the case. Thanks for the response. Zelo

Glad it was discovered who was the culprit behind these intrusions and thefts - thank goodness it is now resolved.

When I was living in Samoa we were robbed about 4-5 times. The first 4 times I was living with my Aunt and Uncle. They had a 1 bedroom flat on top of their garage where I stayed. Their land is heavily gated but someonehow these buggers managed to get in and take all my clothing, little bit of jewelry I had that my mum gave me and my shoes. I had left a back window open which they managed to cut through the wire netting and jump through. I went away for the weekend with my family and came back Sunday evening to find my room in a mess. The next time it happened they managed to force a small kitchen window open and once again most of my clothes and shoes were taken. By then I had no jewlery for them to take. Third time not sure how they got into our room (I was married by then) and when I woke up the next morning, I found my handbag outside the front porch, money gone, my watch and a pair of sandals, oh and my husbands smokes ?!? The police never caught them even though they came all three times to take fingerprints. We think it was a bunch of kids hitting all the houses around our area. We moved after that and went and stay at my husbands grandparents place. I actually was ready to go back home to New Zealand. The last time was when I was overseas giving birth to my son (my husband stayed behind), a neighbor broke into the grandparents home through the back kitchen window, while they were at the beach one weekend, and the only things missing were my stuff i.e. clothes, shoes and personal things. Nothing else. My hubby and his family did not think anything was missing until I got back from New Zealand, only to find a lot of my work clothes and shoes gone. :( Not long after my husband got a job here in the US and we moved.

I thought that I was being singled out but then I heard from others that they too had their clothing stoled and thought that it was a bunch of girls stealing clothes around our neighborhood. From then on everytime we travelled back to New Zealand I never bought anymore new clothes or shoes. Since I wore puletasi's (Samoan dress) for work, I just got a bunch of those made and they never got stolen LOL

Thank God my home has never been broken into. That would have to be a nightmare. We did have my husbands work van broke into one time during the night but he was able to recover the items. Another time we lived in an appartment and we owned a 47 willys jeep, that was my husbands. I was going to use it this one morning to take my daughter to school because hubby was getting ready to go hunting and I told him I'd use the jeep and put the gas in it on my way home, well anyway we got to the jeep got in and I come to realize the steering wheel was stolen out of it. We never did get it back and it took a long time and lots of dollars to replace it. The jeep was parked directly outside my daughters bedroom window and that felt weird I'll tell you.

oh dear... seems like someone else also had a hard time finding one and seized the opportunity to show forth his shadiness of character. that really rots.

I have been broken into and robbed once, I was a single parent at the time, my little baby only a few days old, I lived in a lovely little flat,it was really nice, but the area I was in was rough. I had made some friends but I knew that they were bad news. My mum and dad lived quite a long way from me and I had gone to see them and show them their new grandson, and we were staying for a few days. The day my dad fetched me home and we pulled up in front of the flats where we lived I knew I had been burgled, my heart sunk into my shoes. I said to my dad, I have been broken into, he said how do you know? I said because the curtains are shut and I left them open when I went away. Sure enough I went through the front door and everything had gone, I had a massive whiskey bottle that I was saving all my change in for my son and they had smashed it to pieces to get the money out. I instantly knew who had done it and although my dad had phoned the police, I could not let on that I knew because to do so would result in some serious consequences for me. I had my suspicions confirmed when someone I knew told me that I was right, the best part was he had done it because I refused to be involved with him. He was a nasty piece of work and he had a girl that he lived with, and then various other girlfriends that he would see and then take their social security benefits off of them each week, and there was no way I was going to be with someone like that, so this was my punishment. He wanted to knock me down, break me. I went into someone elses flat not long after and I looked at the stereo they had and I said thats my stereo, where did you get it? they told me and so I told them what had happened, and they were going to give it me back, but the lad found out about it and so broke into their flat and robbed it off them, plus a few other things too. Eventually my mum and dad realised that I could be in serious danger and so they asked me to move up to them and live with them for a while until I could get back on my feet, so I did and I escaped the nightmare I was caught up in.

wow, I think you got the better deal - a bottle full of change rather than a life with that creep in it.

We had our house broken into when I was much younger. I think it was someone my parents knew or a friend of someone they knew. Only cash was stolen, it was the deposit from my families pizza store that for some reason was at the house and not in the bank...lol The person was arrested and went to jail but that's about all I remember. One other time there was an escape from the state prison a few miles from us. One of the guys that escaped showed up at our door wanting to use the phone. He had holes in his clothes and was wet from snow all the way to his waist. He was very suspicious. My brother let him in the door, he was only about 10 at the time. After the guy crouched down against our refrigerater like in an institution....lol that's when we knew something was really wrong.. He just stayed there crouched down waiting for the taxi he called. When he left my mom called the police and he was quickly caught.....scary...

I live in the center of the city, we have not been robbed, but we do get tagged, graffity. On our garage, and a garbage can we have out front. I have also had my car windows busted out 2x since I have been here. Nothing was taken. It is a nuisaince for sure, and if they keep breaking my windows, it will get very expensive. For the most part it is nice here, but like any big city, there are always going to be bad people around somewhere.

oh, how bothersome. great they never took anything - but in a sense, didn't they? they took a little sense of comfort and security probably - and certain took some of your time in having to correct the damage and money spent on supplies to fix the damage. it kind of makes you feel vulnerable, I would imagine.
