Environmental Fees! How far will you go for the environment?

My television broke two days ago. I have three children on March Break so I had to go get another television. I wasn't happy as my other tv was only 4 years old and the tube went on it. My last tv before that was 35 years old. They used to make television so much better, why do they make junk now that doesn't last. Well fine I do to the store to get another tv. Nothing special, 27 inch regular tv for 190 dollars. Get to the cashier and had to pay $25 environmental tax for it. There are different taxes depending on the size of the electronic item so no matter what you have to pay a fee. I was so mad. Not because I don't care about the environment. I do plenty for it. But my though was if the manufacturers made televisions like they used to which lasted 30 years I wouldn't mind and there wouldn't be a big pile of them in the dump either so it is their fault not mine. They make junk only to last a few years and I have to pay to unload it after. NO They should pay not me!
Since I am forced to pay out because big business don't care I actually care less for the cause.
So are you all for it at any cost?
Or do you have a limit?

I am glad you posted this, so now I know to have my TV BEFORE I move to Canada. I really do believe that this is very stupid. I thought the video games got you coming and going. (To explain, you get a new game system at what now, like $300 low end? It comes with one game and one controller. Now, unless you are a total hermit or extremely stingy, you will want someone to play with you, so you have to buy up to three more controllers at about $25 each. Then, you don't want to play the same game over and over, so you get more games at about $50 a pop. Then, on some of the games, you need memory space so you don't have to start from the beginning each time, so you buy memory cards at anywhere from $17-30 each, depending on how much memory it has.)
But back to the subject. They really have you by the jewels on this. First, the manufacturers make the crappy stuff for only one single reason, so you have to come back and spend more money in a few years. And as if that wasn't devious enough, now when you buy another one, they charge you an extra $25 because they know that you will be throwing that out in a few years too so that pays for the space?!? This is ridiculous.
My suggestion to you. Unfortunately you will have to buy a high priced name brand well-known for its stability. That is the only way you will get around that tax for a while. Eventually it will burn out too, but if you get a good brand like that, at least you know that you have a good while before that happens.

Oh, and yes, I am for the entire green movement, but I feel action is the best way to solve this problem, not just throw money at it. I know it will take money to do some of the things that is required to make this world more efficient, but the majority of what needs to happen is people adopting different habits. That is the best way to make change, not charging people for it.

Gosh I love the way to say it. I feel the same way that action is what is needed not always money. Also it would be big money like from big business and not just small consumers.
