my daughter wanted to watch tv the other day and she had allready watched 2 shows after school so i told her she needed a break from the tv. she's 4, she then tries to tell me the teacher said she had to watch tv for homework. she finally admitted she was fibbing. anyway a few days later we were at dance class and there is a little girl there in her class so in front of my daughter i asked the other girl if the teacher had said that and my daughter just sat there grinning. it was cute, i give her props for trying but don't like being lied to. how do you deal with a fibbing kid even though it's not really a bad fib.

My daughter is good for doing stuff like that too. You're right it is kind of cute, but I still have a talk with her about it. I worry that she won't get the difference between a cute little fib and a big lie. I praise my daughter to telling the truth when the situation comes up. I want her to always be able to tell me the truth even if it means she'll get into trouble.

I spent much time with my son differentiating between the truth and a lie. The lie always got more of a punishment then the actual deed, just to enforce the badness of the lie. Also, don't say something that you can't back up. I never said anything that I knew not to be true, sometimes it meant my being sneaky but my son was always amazed that I knew the truth and I would tell him, when you are a Mom, you know. He was too scared to lie to me.

A fib is a fib is a fib. It doesn't matter if it was bad fib or not, she told a fib to you and for that she needs to know it was wrong and punish accordingly. If you don't, she'll learn to run over anything you say to her. I'd say no TV for a week.

I just wanted to comment and say that your daughter sounds adorable, and clever. But lying to mama, not where you want to focus your efforts! lol
