I'm just looking at my refrigerator and thinking that it looks like the message center from h@##. Its got pictures, magnets, business cards, paperwork, post-it notes and all kinds of outdated stuff that needs to go. Why is it that we make our refrigerator the common area of the house? I guess we all think that when someone gets something to eat that they will see the things we have posted. Do you use your refrigerator as a modern art center or a message center? And how often do you think to clear it of all its debris?

I use it as a reminder notice board sort of. It's has important school function notices coming up (which I change once the function is finished with), my son's ID info I need to sign into "fcp blackboard" to keep up to date with his class activities and notices, my sister in laws wedding invitation which is next month and my son's class schedule of activities. I do have one small peice of artwork and photo of my son on it as well as a notepad where I leave messages for my hubby. I also have our doctors phone numbers on there too for quick reference.

So you use it as a message center of sorts too. How often do you replace what you have put up on it?

The only thing that gets replaced is the notices once the function is finished. The rest I have had up there since last September (when my son started school) lol

Yes, right now our refrigerator has post-it-notes as well. It's also the common way to treat the refrigerator in our households here. Everyone in the house gets to open the fridge at least once a day. If not for food, maybe for a cold glass of water.

So then my question to you is before you open the refrigerator door, do you actually read the stuff thats stuck to the front of it? LOL.

Of course, I always look at the writings that I can see. I read what is on there almost every single time I open the refrigerator. It's funny because there are times, we just forget to remove the notes even we have read them at least 3 times and they stay on for weeks. But we suddenly remember to tidy up a bit if our fridge is already turning into a Christmas tree.

Haha, I've got both going on. Not only is the refrigerator covered with unattractive waste, but, yes, if the keyboard is not being used its a message center too. Grrrr.......

No... I never did that with my fridge.
But most people do... thanks to the invention of those cute little magnets... and the fact that the fridge is the only metal thing in the house that you can stick them on.

I'll bet your house is lovely and neat. I'd almost rather have to move than spring clean this one. LOL.

Since we had the kitchen replaced we haven't dared make any kind of mess on the refrigerator. But it's days are numbered. We have a half US size fridge so we have never used it as a message centre. But we have stick magnets and stuff on there, and they fall off, get kicked under the fridge and take forever to get out. Every so often we clear all the stuff off and discuss what we are going to do with it. As we can never agree, the fridge gets a wipe down and everything gets put back up again. Crazy really.

I wouldn't dare look under our refrigerator. I'd probably die from fright. Its not something I'm about to move myself and getting anyone to help is a chore in itself and not a task worth undertaking. One day we'll move and I pity the landlord. Just kidding. Actually we will have to move it soon to lay new tile in the kitchen, but just thinking about what lies under the frig is pretty scary. As if the refrigerator itself wasn't scary enough.

Yeah, we post our recipes for the month there...then there's my niece's medicines with corresponding dosages, which I think aren't supposed to be there anymore because she's already well...and then there's shopping list from last week and there are others which I don't even bother to look at.

I guess if you had a big metal sheet nailed to the wall in another area of the house, lots of stuff would get pinned there too. Try hiding the fridge magnets! I'm sure it would stay nice and clear of clutter then! I once read that it was actually proven that people who put bills and letters on their fridge suffered from higher levels of stress than those who didn't simply because they were reminded of how much money they owed numerous times a day!

I can just see your 'message centre' in my minds eye! lol I used to have the same thing on my fridge door but then I bought a very large magnetic white board and put it on my kitchen wall! That way I can put all the junk on the board and also write messages etc on there! The fridge though is still not a blank space as my daughter commandeered it for her magnetic barbie and her outfits! There are also about 20 magnets with photos or sayings on them ! Good luck in keeping yours clear sweety! xxx

I use my refrigerator as a display center for photos. We live quite a distance from our families and the pictures have helped my son remember who people are. I don't like putting a lot of stuff on my refrigerator but I'm slowly getting over that. My son makes all this adorable art work and it is the perfect place to display it.

I clear mine every other month or so. My four year old loves to fingerpaint. So those are hanging. Magnets and coupons.
