Pregnant women are advised to consume less than 300mg of caffeine a day. This is because caffeine affects blood pressure in the short term, which is obviously not a good thing.
Unfortunately the caffeine content of drinks and foods varies from brand to brand, so estimating how many 'cups' to drink a day is difficult.
Now for the numbers(mg per cup/bar/12oz can);
Instant Coffee = 61 - 70
Percolate Coffee = 97 - 125 (wow!)
Tea = 15 - (in extreme cases) 75
Cocoa = 10 - 17
Chocolate bar = 60 - 70
Cola = 43 - 65
Tea has a lot of health benefits from antioxidants to contributing to mineral intake. So a few cups a day are not going to harm anyone and may even help, on a very small scale.

Well I have never heard this before and took the liberty of googling it and the only thing it seemed to alert me to was watching that you are not consuming too much caffeine which is obviously present in tea.
Every day though the health people are coming out with different things that are "bad" for us but I think if we were to listen to them all we would be eating nothing and living in a safe bubble.

I pretty sure it's because of the caffeine but even that is now questionable. In studies I've read, tes drinking can actually have benefits to those wishing to become pregnant. According to the studies, tea drinkers tend to be healthier and have a healthier weight than coffee and soda drinkers. Good general health helps with fertility and safer pregnancies.

I have heard that too much caffein increases the risk of miscarraige in pregnancy, but then there was another study recently that dismissed the evidence found. To be honest I think caffein in small quanities is not going to harm an unborn child. I drank upto 8 cups of instant coffee when pregnant with my son and he is fine, if a little hyperactive lol!
in pregnancy i think a little in moderation is fine.

It is definatley to do with the caffiene, too much ive heard can cause a misscarriage this was read on a baby website, same with coffee coke and anything else containing caffiene.
The odd cuppa wont harm the baby nor a can of coke excess may though, all in moderation i mean there are worse things you can do to your body while pregnant than have the odd cuppa.
