According to a resent study by researcher from Harvard University http://people.rwj.harvard.edu/~riyengar/insurgency.pdf the insurgency in Iraq will increase attacks and acts of violence against the US and Iraqis. This study supports the idea that we lost the war in Viet Nam because the media reported only the negative news and lessened our resolve at home and emboldened the North to continue the war after they felt the war was lost for them. In their study they found that when there was discussion against the war or anti war activities the violence increased in communities that had access to international news reports. When President Bush announced the troop surge Al Sadar fled to Iran and his Army was in disarray. As the politicians and new media started to criticize the president and the effort the violence started to increase. When the surge started to work and the media reported nothing on the war effort the violence decreased and the Iraqis were able to take over more of the police and security of their country. Now political candidates are talking about withdrawal and down playing the reports the violence is increasing. It is time that we demand that the media report the success of the war with the same passion they have been reporting the death toll of our brave troops. The way the media reported only the deaths made it seem like they died for no reason. Most of the deaths were a result of action taken by our troops against the enemy. In those battles our troops were successful and were making progress. We need the whole truth from our "News" Media and not jsut what our enemys want hear.
