There is a columnist who reportily said that the only hope for the Democratic Party to win the election. Governor Dean is calling for the Super Delegates to come together and declare a winner in the primaries. It seems like the Democratic Party is will ing to forget the wishes of the people and nominate a person who the bosses think can win.

That bring me back to 1988. Dukakis was the obvious and consistent leading candidate but Newsweek just ignored him and touted about a broker convention. Newsweek dreamed that Dukakis wouldn't have enough delegates and a broker convention would nominate Mario Cuomo. That didn't happen and Newsweek admitted that they were over fascinated by a broker convention.
Sure, a broker convention is exciting with all the back door negotiations and political deals. The media love it.

I just read the article and it's not really meant to be taken seriously. At one point the reporter says, "Let's play a little" and the article ends with, "And yet ... is this scenario any more preposterous than the one that gave John McCain the Republican nomination? Yes, it's silly season. But this has been an exceptionally "silly" year."
Also, Howard Dean is not calling for the SD's to come together and declare a winner in the primaries, that's not even close to the solutions being bandied about. They are talking about a Super Delegate "primary" or "mini-convention" after all the primaries are over if there is no candidate with the needed number of delegates. From everything I've heard and read that's had any credibility at all everyone is trying to find a way to make sure the voters get what they want. There have been more calls for Hillary to pull out but she's vowed to stay in until the end but I think if she doesn't do as well as expected in Pa. that may change. Al Gore should probably be President right now but that's over and done with and he's made it clear he's not interested at this time, if ever.

The fact that it is being talked about, even in a humorous way, is an indications that people are thinking about how to save the party. This a way to test the waters to see what people think. I have not read or heard of opposition to these ideas. I have seen polls that indicate that Senator Obama's supporters will not support Senator Clinton and vis versa. Given the past elections and how close they have been if 10-15% of the party supporters decide to vote for the opponent or stay home it could have a major impact on the outcome of the election. I think that the paty leader are concerned and are looking at all options. This is the purpose of the super delegates to protect the party
