Do you have a splinter??

Ok my father-in-law told me something that he read. When you have a splinter, take an onion and rub it on the guaze of a bandaid, put it over the splinter and the next day it will be at the surface of the skin.
Has anyone ever done this and does it really work??

I have heard of that about onion and splinters but have never tried it. I wonder if it does work. I always used a needle and gently lifted the splinter out but that does break the skin. I wonder what there is in the onion that would draw the splinter up to the surface like that?
