I've been looking at the standard wedding vows this morning, and I'm not sure that I like everything that they say. So I was wondering about writing something myself. I'm finding it pretty hard though, putting together soemthing that's meaningful without sounding too cheesy.
Did you write your own vows? How did you get inspiration? And did you do it on your own, or as a couple?
Thanks!

i dont think it is hard to right a vow for it is meant for the person you are spending your whole life with. i was married before and now single again. if you are going to get married then make your partner your inspiration. it doesnt matter if it is cheesy as long as it comes from your heart, rather than copied only in some sites. wink wink. goodluck

why do you have to think about what they are going to think. you are not making it for them you are making it for your partner. make your partner laugh at cry at the same time... i think that would be cool

I wrote not only the vows my husband and I said to each other but also his promise vows that he said to my children as he gave them their family necklace...How did I get inspiration? Well from reading vows that others had written (to get an idea of how its done) but mainly by thinking about our relationship, what we mean to each other, what he and my kids mean to each other and so on...

I'm writing my whole ceremony. What I'm doing is pulling from other wedding ceremonies and making my own. My main inspiration is a Celtic handfasting. I also recommend getting a vow book. They're really very handy.
