I went outside today here in Minnesota to clear away the old mulch to prepare my gardens for the srping rituals. As I cleared the wood chips from onwe flower bed I spotted all these buds. Yipppeee! My seedums are popping up all over the place even with snow on the ground in spots here. I am anxiously awaiting for everything to open up but that's a ways off. I have the Seedums for show but mostly to attract bees and butterflies for the purpose of pollinating my Apple Trees. Do you have many flowers starting to bud yet in your graden/yard?

I have a sedum planted on both sides of my front porch and when I went out walking yesterday, I noticed them popping up as well. Actually, they are popping up like mad all around the main plants as well. Thinking of starting an new flower bed but still undecided how and where I'm going to put it let alone what I'm going to put in it.

The sedum do spread quite a bit. I have a variegated variety that I forgot about. They grow from seeding from the flowers, and from underground root growth. You can also root them in soil, from a cutting.

Do Seedums spread a lot? I just planted two last year and they weren't very big but they were beautiful. I also have beebalm in between them as well as a huge Lavendar shrub in the same area.

The forsythia is finishing up, at least mine is. I also thing the flowering quince is going to look pretty. I love the color. I think that our apples bloom before the sedum here. I believe the honeysuckle will be blooming to attract the bees here. It is a good plan, though. Do everything we can to encourage good fruit.

I have forgotton what seedums are, although you have probably told me before.
They look so funny in your photo. What is it about them that attracts bees & butterflies? The smell?

They get flowers that look like a saucer sized plate of tiny seeds. It's the color and the nectar produced from them that attracts the
bees and butterflies. Plus the color attracts them as well.

I used to have seedum - autumn joy I think the kind that gets all rosy later in the year? I don't have my garden any more but am enjoying your pictures of all the little buds. I would be doing this myself this time of year. Digging around and finding all the little seedling and sprouts was a pleasure.
